If Harbaugh came here. I'm willing to bet we don't get Rome and draft an Oline tackle with our #9 overall pick. Harbaugh believes in building the lines first.
probably but he was never coming to chicago. not sure why you ever thought he was ever even an option. Mc's don't hire former team players as coaches and he and poles don't like eachother, and neither the mc's nor poles was a hc w/gm like power.
need to just drop it, he was never an option. That being said, the Bears need a GM and HC that understand the OL is the building block.
I figure with them giving away football operations the Mc's wouldn't put their hands into the Bears. Jim Harbaugh was the perfect guy to get. Dude is a winner, wanted to come to Chicago. Having CW as your QB for the next few years. I don't see why he would turn it down.
Just like before, the Mc's want a "yes" men. Sadly Harbaugh isn't a yes man as you can't be and a winner at the same time.

Even if the mc's weren't, I don't buy that at all btw. Poles wouldn't want anything to do with him.
The McCaskeys would cut Poles off at the knees if Harbaugh, or any other Tier 1 coach, was available.
They would never allow it. They want a Yes Man who is happy to get his first HC job.
Fox was past his prime, behind the times and only got the job because Accorsi OK’d it and the McCaskeys trust him.
Harbaugh wasn't going to get the job even if the Mc's were okay with it. 1, the MC's don't tend to like previous Bears players on their coaching staff. 2, like you pointed out, they don't want strong willed experienced HC's, Fox was never meant to be more then a couple years to help right the ship after the complete fail that was Trestman. 3, Poles and Harbaugh don't have a good relationship b/c of Covid and the Big10 cancelling the season. Add in that you are also correct, he was going to demand GM like power and neither the GM nor the owners were going to allow it. Lovie got a larger say over the team roster makeup and they went from went from SB loss to hovering around to get to .500. It won't happen again.
People need to get over the Harbaugh thing, it was never an option. He wasn't overlooked or passed up b/c of Flus. It was never an option to begin with. The next HC that comes in will fit the same mold and Nagy and Flus, and Lovie before that. Young coordinator talent that is up and coming and happy to have a job, so they'll do as they are told. Same w/the next GM. I still don't buy that Poles only needed to interview 1 guy, and it just so happened to be a guy the Mc's had already interviewed and wanted.
The Mc's demand yes men, and they get it, and it more often than not hurts the team more than not. Rot is from the top down in this Org. You can only hope that when Warren decides to clean house he'll have actual say w/out the Mc's interference. But when will he be fed up with this mess? He's got a stadium to deal with; and he's busy cleaning up the mess Phillips and his staff left w/that.
I applaud and agree with every word of this post.
Master Class session on the McCaskeys and their scum. Great job Ric.
Tom Brady would love this board with all the deflated balls that are given out season after season.
Honestly, I'm tired of giving out deflated footballs after every game. Maybe we should have I Blame Angelo awards, Don't Be Nagy Awards, Out-Foxed Awards, or even Tuckered Out Awards.
I don't mind losing too much - IF we look lie a real honest-to-goodness NFL team doing so. But I can't remember the last time we looked like a real team. And I'm being completely honest here. Was it in the middle of the Lovie Dovie years? Before then? Certainly not since.

Winning isn't everything. Last place in the division is not THAT bad. The boys are trying, right? Hand out the participation ribbons to 'em at the end of the season, give each one a hug and send them off to have fun.

I'm starting to think our official colors should change from navy and orange to black and purple. You know, the official colors of mourning, cuz' we're always mourning our losses.
I know, saw it. There's zero accountability from Flus. It's always the standard coach-speak pabulum ass-covering bullshit.
It was about BOTH. Difference between a good coaching and bad is that good coaches maximize their players' chance of success. Bad coaches like Flus-dron add to the degree of difficulty.
Looking at you, Ryan Poles. You knew on January 15 (probably way sooner) that you were drafting a new QB. You knew this was a golden opportunity to pair your new QB with the right HC and OC and align them on the some time schedule.
And you chose to stick with this guy? How the hell is that possible? These doofuses couldn't deliver a bottle of milk.
I honestly believe he thought Flus was the right guy. I think his close working relationship did not allow him to see it as objectively as he should have. Harbaugh comes up for consideration like every 4 years or so. We missed that window. Damn it.
I can't say if Poles personal friendship was a conflict of interest. Logic says it likely was but can't say for sure.
Regardless, he did think "Flus was the right guy" as you said. That cannot be denied. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, Poles offensive evaluations (both players and coaches) thus far have not been impressive. DJ Moore was a clear hit and I fully believe Rome will be as well. Caleb Williams was obviously a no-brainer. Everything else he's touched on offense, players and coaches, has not been good. Not yet anyway.
Ric, I'm not disputing the OL is a major problem and is making things much harder than they should be. Regardless, FLUS-WALDRON STILL SHOULD HAVE WON THAT GAME. Bears had a far superior roster on the field even with a shoddy OL. Coaching malpractice cost us at least 10 points.
My main gripe with the coaches is forward looking. I posted here just before the season opened that it was one of my biggest concerns. Others here also had the same worry. What if the OL was "league average" right now? Would you have confidence in these coaches? I wouldn't.
It's year 3 for Flus. He's out of excuses in my book. If and Waldron managed the personnel well and called a good game and we still lost cuz the OL blew chunks, I wouldn't be on their case. They didn't do that. They ADDED to the problems rather than mitigating them.
RoJo is your best lead back. Certainly your best 1st & 2nd down back running between the tackles. I'm just a dumb fan and I can see that plainly. That's just one example of how much these coaches are sucking ass right now. What I am scared of is that guys will never be able to win a playoff game cuz they will get schooled by far better coaches every time.
Oh, and it would be nice if your HC was prepared for 2 after scoring a TD in 14-9 game. He wasn't. He signaled for a kick and sent the PAT team out there. That's indefensibly bad. It actually hadn't occurred to him that maybe he should have thought that through. Same thing as last year.

Look on the bright side.
We might be the first fan base ever to cheer losing so that we can take the best LT prospect in the draft.
There's an intellectual victory in that...I think.

Matt Eberflus -- "Mr. September"
Eberflus isn't even the best leader on his own property.
That honor goes to the Queen Bee in his bee habitat.
At least she can organize her hive to do something productive and maintain order.
