I say Williams. 2 maybe 3 of the sacks were on him. He sailed a few long balls again. His 3 turnovers were the difference in the game. 52 attempt, a 50 yard gift on Hail Mary, and 2 minute drill stat padding at the end masks an otherwise poor performance IMO.
agree, TMP. Sad to say, we are in for another horrible year, BUT if we can get the OL fixed next year, we are golden. Too many resources were needed to fix this team. The tear down was needed, and it was good. Build up takes time. If a couple of the OL didn't give up and or others didn't get injured, we'd be in better shape. Not good, but better. I'm sure RP goes all in on the OL next year. He's not stupid, he was just hog-tied with resources and availability. Odunze? Maybe we could have gotten a quality OL at that pick, but I still think the thinking was KA is a 1-year deal and they needed a long-term stud WR. Once RO got to us at that pick I don't blame them for grabbing him. Again, the OL should be playing better than it is now.
I do not fault Poles for taking Odunze.
A superior prospect, with franchise level talent dropped, and so we took him.
You take the superior talent.
I think a valid counter argument to taking Odunze is drafting Fashanu (Alt and Latham were both gone). I would not have traded down from 9.
It's a shitty situation and it's making Poles look bad despite all the great work he's done. My thought about the future of this team is that in 2025 we are going to have our QB, probably 3 or 4 starting OL, and a star WR all on rookie contracts and that is a massive advantage.
The whole thing just sucks because today it finally started to look like we could have our Franchise QB Of The Future with talented skill players on offense and a top notch D, but we're going to get sabotaged by the OL every week now.
Did the most basic of efforts in FA for the OL, no serious upgrades nor did he even try. Then took Rome at 9, as if the OL still didn't need major upgrades and then his only addition was a small school pre injured OT when IOL was the primary issue.
I remember being pretty much the only one saying that we needed to go OL or DL with our second pick and that adding a WR was a luxury we couldn't really afford. I was then told that it's all about offensive weapons in today's passing league and we needed many receivers. I was too old school because I wanted to focus on both lines first.
Well......
Don't get me wrong, I like Rome and he was my favorite WR prospect in the draft, but I honestly would rather have the best OL prospect and a receiving corps w/o Rome than Rome w/o any decent rookie OL.
I voted for Odunze, but if he went #7, we should have traded down to get Powers-Johnson. That was always my backup plan.

you and me both Grizz. Look at what Carter is doing, he looks solid. imagine what he and DJ and Kmet could do if the OL could give the QB 3+ seconds to throw instead of whatever it's giving him now.
Rome is great, but rookie Wr's tend to struggle. you paired a rookie qb, they tend to struggle, w/a rookie WR, who tend to struggle and gave them no OL which means the entire O is going to struggle. it was dumb. Could Rome have been a good pick if they had actually went hard in FA or looked to trade w/other teams for some OL? Maybe, but man they ignored it in FA, you couldn't ignore it in the draft like they did.
I still can't get my head around the play calling today. But that was "one for the ages" right there. You feel like you'd like to shake Shane Waldron's head to see if there is something "loose" rattling around up there.
Like you said in the other thread about Payton Manning throwing 11 picks in his 1st few games. What that tells you is that Indy Coaching took the leash off and said let er fly! They knew there were gonna be mistakes. But at the same time they were evaluating what the kid has as a young QB. Bears Coaching has Williams bottled up like a Genie. Cept they're not letting him out of the bottle. Stunting his growth/developement like forced learning if you will.
Gotta admit that it feels like that, and if so then it's similar to what they did to Justin Fields here. He ended up feeling robotic out there. It's like the Bears can't get offense figured out. They sure as heck don't seem to understand how to develop a quarterback. That is the "dark" history here with this franchise. Their last draft success of a stud QB1 was in the 1939 draft of old leather helmet guy Sid Luckman. That was 85 years ago. I guess the positive thing in all of this is that we don't need to worry about Shane Waldron getting poached for a head coaching job now. He is bad enough that nobody will want him now. So there is that I guess...

Exactly!!! when he comes off the field he looks all out of sorts on the bench. Not careful they're gonna put him on the same path Darnold went down with the Jets.
