The defense saved the day, as already noted. I’m not ready to give up on CW, he’s a rookie with a lot of high expectations. He made a comment on hard nocks about not getting nervous. I’m going to attribute some of his mediocre performance against nerves/pressure. I thought his preseason accuracy was pretty impressive but today he was really off, especially deep. I’m giving him some time to settle in. The receiver’s didn’t live up to the hype and investment we put into them. Maybe the tape will show something different? The oline is even worse than I expected which is tough to digest. If that’s not fixed we just may ruin another 1st row QB pick. I think Waldron should have laid out a more run heavy game plan for the first half at least. Swift was making some good headway. The Titans d-line is good against the run but he should have given Caleb some successful drives before trying to push the pass. I’m just a meatball fan though.

agree 1000% on all statements.
Allen has an injury, and Odunze's 1st game so I don't blame them a whole lot, but where the heck was Kmet?
I realize Poles had bare bones to start with a couple years ago, and a LOT of holes to fill, but sadly the O-Line is still woefully inadequate. Our only hope is they don't have many injuries and can start to gel quickly to at least become mediocre. Next offseason better bring in a LOT of new and MUCH better talent on the lines. Both of them, but mainly the O.
Also disappointed with Waldron. Thought he was supposed to be better than what we saw. It was Getsy version 2 all over again. Too many passes (way too many screens, no slants?), not enough runs. Yes, Titans were stopping the run to make us throw, but you gotta keep running at them, pound em into submission. Especially after you see a little bit of nervousness - either C Will or the WRs.

For some reason Everett outsnapped Kmet. That shouldn't ever happen. And yes, it felt like Waldron had Getsy's playcard.
It also felt like Waldron deliberately went away from what he showed in PS with rolling pockets, 2 and 3 TE formations, more downfield targets. Trying to outsmart the Titans and he went away from what they should be doing.
Also frustrated that again, Sweet only played on 41% of the DEF snaps? Seriously? The best DE on the team?

The IOL was why I wanted to trade out of 9 if possible. I get that Rome is special, but special Wr's don't matter much when the OL cannot protect long enough to let the Wr's do their routes.
Could have traded out and got a C in the late 1st mid 2nd. But even w/a C you are still lacking at OG b/c Davis and Jenkins aren't likely to stay healthy. You cannot ignore the OL to the extent Poles has. Banking on a late rd OT and taking an early OT and backfilling w/shitty FA's isn't a way to build a strong OL for a rookie qb.

Just to clarify, it was the Titans that lost the game. Built a 17 nothin lead and imploded. Will Levis went complete moron and cost his team the game. That pick6 he tossed was an absolute dunce play and I'm not talkin Kirsten here! It's a good thing Tannehill wasn't still with Tenn cuz it would have been game over for the duh Bears.
Meanwhile in more convincing fashion, the Vikings crushed the Montreal Canadiens today and Sam Darnold looked a hell lot better than Caleb Williams!!! Hold all tie breakers in 1st place too! TAKE THAT!!!

I'm re-watching the game. Maybe the offensive line is decent except for Nate Davis and Shelton. That's certainly not good, but it does look like the tackles are good and Jenkins is solid. Davis didn't play much and was replaced by Bates who looks okay at RG.
Shelton is the weak link of the 5 positions. He looks a lot like what we've had here in Chicago with centers like Lucas Patrick and Sam Mustipher. We just need to get a stud C and that will help that whole IOL.
That being said, re-watching the OL it sure looks like there was confusion as to blocking assignments on the interior. Maybe some of that was changing IOL around. Bates was C, then Shelton, Davis was a no-show most of the summer camp and preseason, Bates the C was played as RG. It looked to me like the blocking assignment confusion (some anyway) may have been RG and C, the positions that were flip-flopping from summer until now. But yeah, Shelton is bad on his own.
