Shark, I completely agree. I have not seen enough of him to really get a huge comfort factor in saying this, but he in fact does seem to be special. I am an advocate of sitting for a year behind a great QB. Problem is that we don't have one of those around. Maybe get Brady back for a year, LOL. But every once in a while you get a guy that doesn't need that. He can pull himself up by his own bootstraps. We have seen a few (even very recently), but it is rare. It may be we got one of them, but to say that sitting for a year is not a good idea.... I still think it is, but in our case, there was no mentor anyway.

Can't wait to see a little more of him tomorrow, and of course we can't have it both ways. We can't be saying that preseason games are not a great indicator of how a player is going to be in the season and then get all excited when we like what we see in preseason. I can't really say he is going to be who I hope he is until I see three or four regular season games, but he has exceeded my expectations and I see nothing that tells me he can't be, so right now just sitting back and enjoying the ride. Hoping that it will last more than one preseason game, LOL

After reading through the above comments it reminded me of the fact that every player, team and situation is unique.  It's not a "one size fits all" sport.  In this case I am thankful we didn't have Caleb carrying a clipboard behind a veteran for a year.  The only thing that would have resulted from that would have been a wasted year of that rookie QB1 contract.

Regarding the importance of preseason games I figure they have value to some extent for a rookie QB like Caleb.  You wouldn't want him to go into the regular season without any game experience at all.  Yes, preseason games are more practice games than anything.  But practice games for Caleb right now help him prepare for the real games that begin soon.  In his case these games are not meaningless and these games do have value.

Unless he changes his name, that's pretty hard to argue against.

Yeah, he looked pretty average (actually, less than average) at the start. I wasn't too worried since he IS still a rookie, but he sure came back. But remember, it is preseason and it was our first team against their second. You have to temper expectations. But he did look good!
