The problem is twofold. First, he may not even be there at 5. Second, (if he is) you pass on him thinking one of the others MAY be there at 9. I just sit back and watch. We don't know how it will fall, and it never falls like how you think it will
For me, I think this is a year in which we don't sit back and wait. This assuming we're good and is going to be the last time we draft in the top 10. If you don't want Harrison Jr and rather have Rome or Nabers. I'm cool with that. All 3 are talented WRs. Harrison has the best floor, Nabers has the best ceiling out of the 3 imo.
None of the defensive players are worth a top 10 pick this year. None are blue chip players. Maybe solid starters but I want a top 5 - top 10 player at his position. Sweat was better than any of the projected prospects this year and he's not even a top 10 pass rusher.
^^^ this ^^^ As I commented on another thread, WR, OT, Edge are where we need to go as after next season, theoretically, we won’t have high draft choices. Grab one of the top 3 WR’s this draft while you can.

No, I didn't say I didn't want MHJ or Nabors. I'd love to have one of them. And your idea of trading up THIS year when we don't have to move up very much has a lot of merit to it. Plus, I agree with how you think it will go down. Pretty much agree with all you said
This is how I think it will go down, or at least some sort of combination like it. If this happens we could be having a bid off from teams wanting that 3rd QB. It would be hard not to take the offers. A small trade back for OT Troy Fautanu or one of Verse/Turner or even Brian Thomas JR I think would be the best outcome. especially if we an squeeze out a 2nd or 3rd from a QB hungry team. Highly unlikely BUT we know what happens when teams get QB happy and one is sitting at number 9.....number 9.....number 9!! Sorry the song popped in my head lol.

I guess my thinking is that if the Bears want to add an elite WR in this draft, there are 3 to choose from (and a number of people believe Nabers is better than Marvin Harrison Jr, and Odunze is very very close to those two - and a GREAT fit for Caleb Williams). Why trade up if you don't have to? It will be fascinating to revisit these three WRs in a few years and see who did, in fact, end up being the best - and who didn't. MHJ may not end up the best... but I get it. He's the hype train guy of the WRs this year. The Bears may view otherwise. We just don't know.
I don't like mortgaging our future when there are going to be elite players available at #9. But, hey, I don't claim to know best here. I've said that many times in the past few weeks. If Poles thinks we need to trade up to get a guy - then maybe that's the best way to go (could be for Alt too).
As much as I loathe the idea of ever trading up in the 1st except for a QB, yeah if by some miracle MHJ falls to #5 or #6 and you can get him just by giving up one of your 2025 2nds, you gotta make that move.
You would literally be drafting the two best players in this draft within minutes of each other.

Yeah, maybe you're right. I just want this draft to be over with at his point. My head hurts trying to think of all this stuff and what is best.

MHJ is a rare prospect with legit HOF potential. His floor is HIGH. He's as close to "can't miss" as anyone ever comes.
If you can somehow get him for next years 2nd, then hell yeah you make that move.

My heart says trade up and get him, by head says...don't trade up ever. I've heard too much about can't miss WRs recently (Bateman, Pickens, the Seattle guy, and even Scott were highly hyped on this board) and while the jury is still out on those guys they were all (except Scott) described as game/team changing. Maybe MHjr is really the generational can't miss player we all think/hope he is. I'd hate to be the team that traded up to get him and he wasn't.
You don't trade up for non high value positions unless you are that position away from a sb. wasted future capital for a non value position is peak meatball.

That is my initial reaction too, but then I think that mpbears68 is probably right though. But (this is what is making me crazier than I already am) but then I think that "if" the guy is going to be legit that great then yeah, a 2nd round pick is chump change. But then again, I worry that a 2025 2nd round pick might not be enough to move up to get him. Then I get anxious thinking that some believe he's not the best WR in this draft - that Nabers is (the Trubisky trade up failure type thing... trade up, and get the wrong guy... Mahomes wasn't seen as the great one he is now).
... and on and on it goes. I'm now just wanting the draft to be over with. I think my head is going to explode soon. Gotta just hope Poles and his staff can sort it all out.
