I can't deny we need a DE pretty bad. I would like to get another stud long term WR in here though. For me, one of the top WRs first and then DE as the second choice. Still think there is a really good chance we trade down though
I already assumed Flus would be on the “draft DE” group in the Halas Hall debating club. Waldron will be on the “draft Odunze” group. Poles will be the guy sitting in the corner with his popcorn.
LOL, I was just going to post this. So it does sound like they are open to an inside guy as well as an edge. They just want to pressure the QB. Of course, it's best if you have 2 edges AND an inside guy that can apply pressure. That's an elite line. We aren't going to get an elite line this year. We might have to settle for an offense that can protect the QB and score and then worry about the D next year. But we won't have these kind of high picks next year (unless it takes the new QB a while to learn)
No surprise whatsoever that a defensive coach wants a defensive player. I believe he truly does 100%.
DE (or maybe DT if you don't like Dex) is unquestionably the biggest pure NEED we have after QB of course. I get it. We were 31st in sacks last year.
I'd just prefer to go all-in on offense this offseason and if that means the D gets shortchanged a little for a season, then so be it.

That is exactly how I see it too. But I won't have a fit if we end up with a truly elite D guy. I'd rather go offense. But hey, the other route isn't a bad one.

I understand that, and I go back and forth myself. We aren't (hopefully) going to pick high next year so we need to go for a high value position and WR is that. But so is DE and we can only get one.
Eberflus can take a back seat this year. He had 2 years where the defense got all the new add ons. Time to give Williams what he needs.
Then I guess it's a good thing that Poles & Flus have already given Williams (or Maye) everything he needs. Two class A receivers, good TE, good RB, they upgraded the OL and hired a better OC.
Other than Brisker in 2022 and Sweat in 2023, what exactly did the defense get these past two years? Seriously, outside of JJ, Sweat and Brisker, our D is pretty awful.
What? Tremaine Edmunds T.J. Edwards Jaquan Brisker Kyler Gordon Montez Sweat DeMarcus Walker Gervon Dexter Tyrique Stevenson Zacch Pickens
In 2023 he had one player in his 1st 3 rounds go to offense.
Allen is a 1-2 year rental. He's old and is in contract year coming to the Bears. You have to draft his replacement this year if a top 3 WR is on board. Our defense literally finish top 5 at the end of the season. So much for awful defense play. More so our offense couldn't keep up with modern NFL scoring.

I take a truly elite WR over a truly elite D guy.
Defense doesn't win games in today NFL.
I wouldn't go so far as to say that but yeah the rules favor offense and defense has been de-accentuated.
IOW... Great D + Crap O = suck Great O + Crap D = wildcard team

I was referring to the defensive players that are worth a damn. JJ, Sweat and Brisker are the only good ones. Edmunds is okay, nothing more. The rest is totally replaceable.
Defense finished 20th in PPG, Offense 18th in PPG - so much for our offense not being able to keep up. In case you've already forgotten, the main issue was not the lack of weapons but shitty QB play and awful play design.
This is probably the most loaded Bears offense we've had since the 2013 season. The notion that our WRs, TEs and RBs are still not enough for Williams to work with is ridiculous.
