With the Commanders sending Howell to SEA to swap and upgrade a couple of their picks, makes me wonder if this is to sweeten a deal for the #1 pick. Could there be some concern in Washington over what other teams may be packaging for an offer to Poles.
I have to admit, Poles does a super job of masking his intentions. I could make an argument he is trading or he is keeping. All we can do is wait and watch. 41 more days left. Of course, if he trades, we may know much earlier.

100% Nobody knows whats going to happen and Poles circle is air tight. Whichever way it goes JF1 or CW I'll fully support it. I just prefer the known than the unknown especially given a bunch of picks cementing some serious optimism now and for years to come.
+1 And I can't imagine how it must be with Fields himself. Dude is just hanging and twisting in the wind. His remaining options (that he doesn't control) go from bad to outright horrific. He could land anywhere, or nowhere (some of the podcast people say the Bears should keep him for now and just send him home... I guess he'd just watch on his TV set like us fans for now).
If Fields is destined to be a backup for some team for a 4th round pick, then I say “doing right” by Justin would be release him and let him try to work a deal with whatever team he wants to play for. Poles would take a lot of heat if he did that.

Like I said, this is the flack he would get for doing it. Fields was a respected team leader with lots of supporters in the locker room. On a human level, it makes a difference how players are treated by the GM. Future potential recruits will remember how Fields was treated by this organization. I believe Poles has much respect and admiration for Fields’ persistence, character, and professionalism. Personally, I would rather Poles did it than trade Fields for a low draft pick to a crappy team, and I assure you I want Bears to win — SOON!

Yeah, I believe Pole's comments where meant to mean they would hope to get Fields traded soon if possible.... but it was no sure thing from the beginning that they could do that. In the end it is a business and the Bears need to get back what they can on Fields' investment. In other words, if he has value then yeah, the team needs to recoup what they can from drafting him. Bears aren't running a charity.

Media is so different today than when than even a decade ago. Everything put out is hyperbole for Likes and Views not factual reports. I doubt Poles has made any attempt to trade JF1, not until CWs pro day (and maybe not at all). I am sure there will be plenty of interest in Fields if & when it comes down to it. He's 24 yrs old, still has a high ceiling & time to develop. These days every Tom Dick & Harry has a yt show or podcast from their basement and they all repeat each other on something they heard on Rich Eisen, Pat MacAffey, Mike Florio which was just someone's controversial oppinion to begin with and it all becomes an amplified echo chamber. We all listen trying to get the latest because we care and we are all impatient. JF1 went from a low 1st to 2nd rd draft pick to being cut within the span of less than a week of Free Agency. It is nuts.

I've seen posts on other platforms that there are three current serious suitors for the #1 pick: Washington, NE and the Giants. Possibly the Raiders, but that would be a trade way down (#13). But these are just people that I have come to trust. I am decidedly not saying I know anything "for sure".
Personally, I suspect that we will have to wait until the day of the draft to see if Poles will trade down. Everyone seems to be playing things close to the chest. The teams that feel they still need to upgrade their starting QB do not want to tip their hands as it hursts their negotiating position. Poles is doing the same with his plans. He may want to take a QB in the 2024 draft (and has one already picked out). He may want to keep Fields for a couple of seasons and complete the overall rebuild of the roster by trading down from the #1 and #9 picks to add multiple picks in the 2nd through the 4th or 5th rounds and get his future QB late in round 1, on day 2, or in 2025 or 2026. He may think Fields is our QB of the future. Who knows? Certainly no one in the "press" or on YouTube, Instagram, X, etc.
