I believe he meant that on the speed of the decision.
+1 That's my take on it too. Poles has constantly repeated over-and-over again that he must put the Bears 1st in all of this. But of course he (Poles) seems like he does care about people, and will try to do the decent thing with Fields here.
On a side note. I think fans can be the same as Poles in these matters. It's okay to not hate a player who we move on from... they are human beings like us. I try to wish them the best. I'm disappointed if a player does not work out here with the Bears, but I get it, they don't intentionally fail... they simply don't get it done. LOL, some fans seem to hate these people because they failed. I don't get that personal hate thing. These are human beings and not trash. Not any more than if it were one of our own kids who fail in sports. They aren't trash children all of a sudden. Not everyone is successful in sports. Failures happen.
Wish Fields all the best. Of course, not a W against us. It was what it was, its just football. Pure entertainment to me, nothing more. I dont get rattled by Ls any more. There are important things in life, this is just an add-on.
Do you? I disagree on that. I think the character, toughness, etc of a QB is of extreme importance to the BEars. I think it can point them one way or another if they have a couple of close candidates.
But don't you figure there has been months of accumulating a massive amount of information and data (not just football data) on these top few candidates? This isn't the ma and pa franchise anymore. I do believe Keven Warren is running the business like the multi-billion dollar entity it should be. The QB1 decision here is one of (if not the) most important decisions they will make. It will probably dictate the success or failure of the franchise for the next decade if it is done correctly. It would probably blow our collective minds if we truly knew what has been done to this point vetting these top guys at QB.
Of course. Maybe into last year even. But reading all about the new wife you want to marry is different than actually meeting her. All the stuff you researched may fall to the wayside when you actually meet, look her in the eyes and ask the tough questions.
If true, this better be because they believe one of the other QBs are better than Williams and not to try and be the smartest guy in the room. When you have the first pick and you think you need a QB, and there is a lot of other teams wanting a QB, you just pick that QB. Don't play games. If they are going to trade down and try and get a franchise QB, then I wish they would just stick with JF
Was listening to H&J this morning on way to work. They were expressing the same sentiments. Which are mainly a fear that the Bears will over-analyze the crap out of this and somehow talk themselves out of making the obvious choice.
I'm keeping the faith in Ryan Poles at this point that he won't fall into "the smartest guy in the room" trap. Williams is the consensus #1 QB in this draft and the consensus best-QB-prospect-in-many-years so, barring something truly unexpected and game-changing coming to light, the Bears need to take him with the #1 pick.
It's simple as that.
I see draftniks, reporters, fans, and clickbait artists all twisting themselves into pretzels trying to justify different scenarios and keep up the intrigue over the #1 pick. SMH
He's the #1 player at the #1 position so you take him with the #1 pick.
Don't overthink it.
The draftniks, reporters, fans and clickbait artists are playing a game.
Its called playing the odds. Odds are he isn't- going to make it, so by coming down on the bust side, you're covered. And if he does make it, than he overcame whatever hang-up you saw in his tape You can claim victory either way.

Totally agree. This part of personally getting to know these top guys is critically important. I think the stuff the Bears have done to date is probably just to narrow down to a couple top guys, and to make sure no show-stopper red flags are discovered. I'll bet they have a top contender at this point but the final decision will come after they meet these guys and get to know them better.

And, I would think see them work out. All data points
Poles said “I am going to do right by Justin”. That means, if possible, he will not trade him to a crap team with terrible OL and WRs. I predict Falcons or Steelers for a second round pick.
I believe he meant that on the speed of the decision. So he is not in the gray area for long. God forbid he is picking teams to Fields liking. Its gonna be a matter of the best offer. If anything else is in play Poles needs to be fired today and hired as Fields agent. But, I have no doubt that is not the case.
He’s not going to rush the decision just to ease Fields’ anxiety. He says he’s going through the whole process, and that includes what he can get trading Fields or trading the #1 pick. I don’t see how “doing right” with Fields means anything but TRYING to find a trade partner where Justin doesn’t get screwed again. That may not be possible.
No thanks on Wilson. He isn't worth the money. I was all for him before we got Justin Fields but so glad we didn't. He has done nothing but hurt the Broncos in almost every meaningful way while also killing them with cap space.
Reset the clock with a rookie QB. Good teams rarely let go good QBs. Plus this is most likely the last time you will have the #1 overall pick in a long time. Getting the Haul doesn't always mean you get the #1 overall pick again next year like we did this year.
Eh, again this isn't my pov, it's what Warren/Poles will want if looking for a KC model. This isn't about winning w/RusWil long term, it's a 1-2 year reorg.
If we're going to the KC route. We should of fired Flus and got us an offensive minded head coach or went after Jim Harbaugh.
