If true, this better be because they believe one of the other QBs are better than Williams and not to try and be the smartest guy in the room. When you have the first pick and you think you need a QB, and there is a lot of other teams wanting a QB, you just pick that QB. Don't play games. If they are going to trade down and try and get a franchise QB, then I wish they would just stick with JF

It could be just a rumor and not true. Or maybe they are not convinced Caleb Williams will be the best franchise QB and another guy in this draft is who they really do feel will be best. We've all talked here many times about how a true NFL quarterback has to have the mental/emotional/maturity level that is so important at the next level. Maybe that part of the evaluation makes a guy like Maye look like the better QB at the NFL level. And Maye actually has some attributes that are better than Caleb. But who knows...

This means Bears have #1pick and don’t get either Williams OR Harrison.
Don't think it actually happens; but IF the rumor is true, they are looking at Russel Wilson, it could be that they don't want a qb that will have pressure to start year 1, allow a vet that knows the O the OC wants to implement (OC and Wilson have good history together). get the 2nd for Fields (tells you everything on why they are moving on from this "franchise qb") and get another haul to continue to build a team around their future qb, either a 10-20ish qb, or possibly Bagent w/eyes on enough capital to move up next year if that doesn't look good.
1. Keep JF1, trade #1 pick for haul, terrible option unless they think Bagent can develop quietly in the shadows. 2. Bring in RusWil trade the #1 pick and fields for a haul plus a 2nd. draft a qb and/or see how Bagent looks in new system. 3. Use #1 pick, trade JF1 for a 2nd possibly trade #9 to get a few more pieces. 4. Trade 1, Trade Feilds, use #9 pick for qb(less likely than keeping JF1)
2 and 3 aren't unreasonable. 3 is more likely especially if the Bears really like the draft class this year; and the laughably low bar JF has set; get 2 years of 2.5-3k yards and 20+ TD's each year passing and he'll look like a massive success even though it's still mid.

Brilliant.
That would make a lot of fans very disillusioned. And mad.

No thanks on Wilson. He isn't worth the money. I was all for him before we got Justin Fields but so glad we didn't. He has done nothing but hurt the Broncos in almost every meaningful way while also killing them with cap space.
Reset the clock with a rookie QB. Good teams rarely let go good QBs. Plus this is most likely the last time you will have the #1 overall pick in a long time. Getting the Haul doesn't always mean you get the #1 overall pick again next year like we did this year.
