Seems like you, I, payton...are devil advocates around here. No need for that really. I will let the management and coaches decide that. They def know best what could transpire from Fields.
I'm not playing devil's advocate. Its the truth how I feel about Fields. I love the guy but don't love the QB for the many reasons we have discussed ad nauseum.
I want someone better.
I feel exactly like how Mark Carmen described on todays CHGO when he clearly got frustrated and went off about some "reality" needing to set in among the Bears fanbase. To paraphrase his comments, you have a consensus #1 QB and elite prospect in this draft and you happen to also have the #1 pick. You need to TAKE THAT GUY.
Period
PS: We may soon learn what the other 31 GMs in the league really think of JF...stripped of all the GM-speak nonsense and BS. If he's this ball of untapped QB greatness that many seem to have deluded themselves into believing, he ought to be worth a heckuva lot in trade value. So let's see what other QB-needy teams offer for him. I have a feeling a reality check is coming.
They all know Poles is drafting Williams and must unload Fields, so that doesn’t give him much leverage. I’m expecting a second round pick.

That doesnt matter! It would matter if there is only one team needin a QB. But, there are quite a few, and there is a little something called competition. So, if Fields is that good, he is bound to bring us 1st rd pick. We will see.

Cousins, Russell Wilson, and Mayfield will be going to teams drafting outside the top-10. Teams inside the top-5 will draft a QB. Poles needs to make his move with Falcons, Raiders, Steelers soon — before the market shrinks. All these teams have the option to draft a QB if Poles sets his price higher than a second round pick. MP is right that some GM would need to have a high rating on Fields to offer more than that.

If he is really that good, as we hear around here, better than all the QBs in this draft, then I see no problem in Atlanta offering us their 1st rd pick Unfortunately, I think we would be super happy with, e.g. Steelers pick. So, lets wait and see.

I wish that were true but I keep seeing elsewhere that Jayden Daniels or even Drake Maye could be the most complete QB in the draft. I think this is the problem with the idea of moving on from the devil we know. It is because of that uncertainty. I am in no way of trying to pick a fight about who is better because....... Well we have enough threads about that lol.
That is my worry because there was no QB this past year in college that completely blew the britches off of every analysist or even coach coach.

I am too, David. Maybe a 2nd + a 4th or something like that.
My point is, if the rest of the league viewed JF like some delusional Bears fans do, he'd be worth a lot more in trade.
If the Chargers put Justin Herbert on the market, what do you think the offers would be? Multiple 1sts I am sure and that is with a big contract in place that Fields doesn't have.
If the Jags put Trevor Lawrence on the trading block, he'd be worth at least a 1st+ despite having a down year last season.
Fans tend to overvalue their own players, especially their own favorite players. As Adam Jahns pointed out, Fields is bottom-3rd statistically in most major QB categories and he's actually bottom-5 in several key ones (3rd down efficiency, 4th quarter, etc).
If Poles can squeeze a 2nd + a swap of 1sts from Atlanta, he should take that deal in a heartbeat. A 2nd alone is still fair value IMO. Remember, Atlanta is sitting at #8 so they could draft JJM there easily. We need someone to get desperate as I don't think Fields' market is quite as hot as some would want to believe. There's probably "interest" but I doubt anyone is hounding Ryan Poles trying to get a deal done right now.
I saw that reported by Mike Florio about an hour ago. Instead he will throw at his own pro day where he can control things by throwing "to his people" and not go through drills where the other top QBs in this draft can compete with him. While I see why he might do this (he doesn't have to because he is going #1), it is just another (small) red flag about the guy. Yeah, not a huge deal. But taken in context with the other things "his people" have put out about him, you do take pause about him at the NFL level. He won't be able to control things in the NFL with "his people" like he did in college - and I wonder how he will react to that?
It really just a business decision. Over the years more and more top prospects minimize working out at combine and do private work outs.

Alex, I'd LOVE to see a 1st rounder for JF but seems like a stretch to me.
Looks like a stacked QB class this year with likely 6 QBs going in the first 50 or so. I hope you're right but like I said to David, I'd take a 2nd + 1st swap with Atlanta and not look back. Only team I could see offering a (late) 1st would be Pittsburgh but is Mike Tomlin gonna sign off on that after getting burned by Kenny Pickett 2 years ago?

No, no, I dont think we will get a 1st for Fields. But, if he is that good as some say around here we should. But, he is not, so... Lets see.

I have mixed emotions on the Falcons trade. They could be a playoff team with Fields, and the trade could come back and bite Poles in the ass. That’s why Hoge and I want him traded to an AFC team. However, “at the same time” (Poles favorite obfuscating phrase), I like Fields as a person and would NOT like to see him go on to another team lacking OL, WRs, and a competent offensive coordinator.
