On what? That Fields was never projected as no.1? Or that he never played like one?
On the entire Justin Fields thing. I respect your opinion. Mine is different than yours. And that's okay if we don't agree on Justin Fields.
What is puzzling to me is how in Oct/Nov... After one of Fields standard games you went completely bezerk and said you are totally thru with the failed Fields experiment. That was after u saw like 25 of his games. Im just amazed you changed your view so much. That is fine. Im just amazed. I wasnt criticizing him that much at that point. I waited till the end. And Packers game did it for me. God knows I gave him enough time to prove..anything. Unfortunately... When I saw my kid, who is totally biased. And clean as a whistle, no pre-feelings about anything really...and when we were entering the 4th these last couple of games, he would just say: im sorry we dont have a big lead or something like that. Its 4th, Bears O and Fields are nowhere to be seen..and he was always right.
And im VERY VERY sorry for that. Rooted for him so hard.

Here is why my view has changed from after that game. First of all I was simply reacting to a point in our season that was pretty painful to experience. But when the season ended I did try to calmly go over watching film and making up my mind on it. I was in a better frame of mind. When I watch (rewatched) his film and compared it with rewatching Caleb's film (I watched his games live to begin with) I couldn't deny that Fields > Caleb when comparing college to college play in that final year for both QBs. Fields is bigger, stronger and showcased an incredibly accurate deep ball. Both QBs hold onto the ball too long trying to make plays. I do try to weigh how much of the Bears problems are on Fields and how much is not. I came to the conclusion that Fields is not our problem (my opinion, and it could be wrong).
If the Bears can't take that level of talent and develop it - that is a Bears problem. A big problem that I do think the Bears are addressing this off season (better player and also coaching talent). Anyway, LOL, my long-winded point is that when I tried to go through the games going back to college, I figured we have a rare talent in Justin Fields. I believe he is an elite talent. I think butkus3595 put it well when he said "Fields has never been coached" yet in the NFL. Nagy/Getsy tried to force him into being something he is not. That did fail. It was doomed to fail before Fields even played in his first game here.
But I understand that others don't evaluate the player and situation - and team for that matter - as I do. I am respectful of that. I could very well be wrong. And admittedly I am wrong a lot about these Bears players. I own that.

Agree completely, Alex
Loved JF and wanted soooo badly for him to succeed. But his typical game was unimpressive and he was awful with the game on the line in the 4th Q consistently.
He has played 40 games. We should have seen IT by now.

As I continually point out, players are not robots. At some point the players have to be accountable for themselves. JF has had plenty of coaching these last few years that I guarantee has pointed out all his issues. If any guy on youtube can see these things and point them out, I'm sure an organization spending millions of dollars on coaches can too and more. But at this point, whether it's because he can't or won't, he clearly is not likely to overcome them. He still struggles with basic throwing mechanics and slow read times. Yeah he's a great athlete, but that doesn't mean he is an elite talent. See Tim Tebow. There is a reason Fields was the fourth drafted QB in his class. A class that has also continued to look worse year after year.

You make excellent points.
I would add that it doesn't require top notch coaching or a great surrounding cast to get the ball out lightning quick to the flat in an ideal position for the receiver to get max YAC. Same thing on a quick slant over the middle. And with 3 seasons in the books, Fields still can't do either one well or consistently.
"Elite player in college" does not equal elite NFL QB. "Elite athlete" doesn't either.

Seems like you, I, payton...are devil advocates around here. No need for that really. I will let the management and coaches decide that. They def know best what could transpire from Fields.

LOL, you guys are all good. And personally I enjoy all of your views - a lot. I do because you all 3 are thoughtful and a lot of times right when I have it wrong. I'm just going to be glad when - one way or another - this QB thing is behind us and we can all get together to support whomever the QB is as the team moves forward. This waiting is a killer because it is an emotional thing. Even the folks who want Caleb are often people who like and respect Justin Fields... they just think we need to have an upgrade over him. And I do understand that view.

I'm not playing devil's advocate. Its the truth how I feel about Fields. I love the guy but don't love the QB for the many reasons we have discussed ad nauseum.
I want someone better.
I feel exactly like how Mark Carmen described on todays CHGO when he clearly got frustrated and went off about some "reality" needing to set in among the Bears fanbase. To paraphrase his comments, you have a consensus #1 QB and elite prospect in this draft and you happen to also have the #1 pick. You need to TAKE THAT GUY.
Period
PS: We may soon learn what the other 31 GMs in the league really think of JF...stripped of all the GM-speak nonsense and BS. If he's this ball of untapped QB greatness that many seem to have deluded themselves into believing, he ought to be worth a heckuva lot in trade value. So let's see what other QB-needy teams offer for him. I have a feeling a reality check is coming.
