JABF, I don't know that you WOULD see any evidence of that. What sort of evidence would ever make it to the public realm? Any if that criteria (getting better) was sufficient for Flus, then what is the criteria for Fields? Didn't the success (or failure) of one affect the other? And if the improvement was enough to justify one, why not the other? Too many inconsistencies for me on this. And again, I am with just everybody on this. I want the best solution (and QB) here. I just don't know what it is. It may seem I only want Fields, but that's not true. I defend him because I think the blame leveled on him is unfair. If they go to Williams and he is a huge success, I will be the first one to applaud the change. I just want success.
I just think that the HC job is a separate and different one than the QB job. It should be graded differently. Eberflus brought his team through a firestorm situation and it improved. I love what he has done on defense and believe we will see the offense take a similar step forward in this year-2 of the rebuild. This morning I was thinking that not only did the team improve, but it was really cool to see how Eberflus held that team together through the nuclear blowup and last season too. Most coaches could not have done what Eberflus did. I think we have a really good HC now. And I respect Poles for having the courage to do the right thing here - it wasn't the sexy move to placate fans, but (I believe) was the best move. I see some mighty good defensive minded HC's in the league (always have been). Eberflus can be a good HC for us... I think he's already on his way in that regard.
That's fine JABF. We disagree on this to some extent. I agree that Flus did some things right, but I still do not see him as a top coach. And we can disagree on that. However, he is the coach and I am not going to bellyache about it. I don't hate him. Just don't think he is great. And I could be wrong.

And full disclosure here. I am probably overly-loyal as a person... I mean in my life I take it to a fault level. I just go overboard there. I recognize that I am wired that way. So, in sports I usually have a difficult time when a player or coach is let go. And I wish these people the best when they do go. And that does color my judgment. So you could be right about this HC. I (so far) like the guy and feel pretty good about him being our coach. But this season should tell us a lot more about him as a coach.

We are the same there too JABF. Probably part of my JF feelings, although I really do try to be as objective as I can when I analyze stuff.
I am hoping that I get a better feeling about Flus this year. I have to be honest, he is not a guy that I am excited about being the Bears HC.
I keep reminding myself that his primary job is to be a leader of men. He has a coaching staff of 25 or so veteran guys who can do the more hands-on stuff. His job is to lead. And there are different styles of leadership. I admire the Andy Reid style. None of this rah-rah stuff. Andy is Andy. He has the respect of the men in that locker room (that's why I didn't think the Kelce thing was a big deal - because those men idolize Andy Reid... they love him, including Kelce. That is the kind of guy we need as HC here. Like many HC's, 'Flus want to call plays. That's okay, as long as he does a good job at it. But like you, I am hoping he has a great year and settles any fan feelings of doubt about him. LOL, so we'll see :-)
My issue isn't really even with Flus. My concern is the ability to develop a QB. Let's say Waldron actually does do a great job with offense, he will get a HC position and now we start all over. I know I bought the concept QB coach would step up but then OC has no play calling experience. After qb coach fails as OC now you have the revolving door.
I think Brady and stability with Josh McDaniels as OC in New England was a anomaly. Luckily he was not good as HC in Denver and returned to the Patriots. Brady was gone when McDaniels went to the Raiders.
Montana had Bill Walsh, Marino had Shula, Mahones has Reid, Elway had Kubiak and Shanahan. Great QBs have offensive HCs. I am sure their may be a exception but not many come to mind. Justin Herbert has a defensive coach and he seems to have slipped, i expect with Harbugh in San Diego now we will see Herbert get on track.
Thus I really have nothing against Flus, just history with QBs say it won't work. I hate ruining these potential QBs as a result.

I get what you are saying and there is merit to that - unless Warren and Poles truly believe this is a guy who is improving/developing and they believe he is going to be a great head coach here. If they truly believe that then you don't fire the guy.
I honestly believe that poles let is personal relationship color his decision. It happens. As a matter of fact, I think it is more the norm. It is REALLY hard to fire a friend.
Yep, that and the fact that Harbaugh prob wanted more control and influence than Poles willing to cede.
