I have mixed emotions on the Falcons trade. They could be a playoff team with Fields, and the trade could come back and bite Poles in the ass. That’s why Hoge and I want him traded to an AFC team. However, “at the same time” (Poles favorite obfuscating phrase), I like Fields as a person and would NOT like to see him go on to another team lacking OL, WRs, and a competent offensive coordinator.
But I'd take the best deal you can get regardless. You can't base your decision on what you think the other team might do next season. If he goes to Atlanta, they could get good and they could still suck too. Besides this trade is not likely to involve next years pick so who cares?
I like Fields as a person too. Rooted for him hard all along, believed in him, and bought his jersey. But MOTM is right--this is BUSINESS and you can't make business decisions to placate him. When Poles said he "wants to do right by Justin", I take that to mean he wants to get the Bears QB situation resolved fairly soon so Justin knows where he stands and where he is playing. I don't take that to mean Poles is gonna take a lesser offer just to put Justin in a good situation.
As I've said here a million freakin times, teams that need new starting QBs usually are NOT in a "good situation". And cold as it may be, I don't really care. Lots of Bears fan blame the Bears for "ruining" Fields (another theory I'm highly suspicious of--the Bears didn't make him slow) and think he will be great with a change of scenery. So give him one--any one is fine--and let him prove it.
Atlanta, Vegas, Pitt, and maybe Tennessee are about the only plausible landing spots. Maybe you could throw NE in there if they were to decide to take MHJ at #3 instead of a QB.
Whoever gives you the best offer is fine by. Tie goes to an AFC team.
