It is looking like we won't get the first QB in this draft, and the QB talent doesn't look so hot anyway. If it comes down to us picking a stud impact player or mediocre QB - who do you pick in the 1st round this year?

Kizer, Watson and Trubisky are all worth a top 5 pick imo. Just because we won't get the best doesn't mean the other two prospects are "mediocre".

Trub is the only one that might not be worth it, if you look at a players career, and not just one year. Watson and Kizer are definitely worth the shot if they are there.

Nobody knows who will be an mediocre QB. Rodgers was taken mid round, Dalton 2rd round etc etc. You never know what they will become. They could as well be impact player or they could become medicore player, much like very other player.
That being said if I know we were going to get an impact player (I assume mulitiple times probowler) I would take the impact player over medicore QB if it happen to be an impact player at a postion we need such as CB, safety.

I am reading different from the scouts. As of yesterday this is CBS' draft scout report. Trubisky is #4. Kizer is 9th. Watson isn't even in the top-10.
Walter Football's latest scouting report has Trubinsky going as late as the 3rd round (LINK) and Watson as late as the 4th round (LINK).

Peppers over every QB?!?
Whatever.
Bet 500 Bearz Buckz Peppers is not even a first round selection.
Pace needs to get his guy. Picking a QB high - forcing that kinda pick - is a super risky move so if I were GM (which is be terrible at) I'd make damn sure the info on the QB was super consistent OR if avoid making that first rd move like the plague.
From a fans perspective, GMs live and die by their first rd pick. If a GM nails the first rd picks, fan think their great, if they whiff they're terrible. Everything after that first pick is bonus material.
