Players get 4 years to prove themselves. I hold Poles to the same standard, and I don’t accept the excuse that he deserves more time. It was his decision to trash the roster, throwing out the baby with the bath water. He got all these draft picks and cap space, now we’ll see whether he can outsmart Brad Holmes and 30 other GMs. If you put yourself near the back of the pack (Bears 2022), you’d better run faster than everyone else to win the race.
I think that end of 2025 is reasonable for Poles. He is gonna have another 2 years with new coaches, and probably new QB. If we dont get into playoffs, I would think about firing him in 2026 too. Super Bowl is too high of a goal for me, as we are not even a playoff team, and we havent been pretty much since Lovie. At this point, I would sign for playoffs.
Not just playoffs. Winning a single playoff game. As great as that 2018 season was. We still were one and done.

Thankfully, Warren has said publicly that he is “impatient” and “Super Bowl” is the goal. I’m holding him to that standard, too.

Nearly half the teams in the league get to the playoffs. A 9-8 record could do it. That is a very low bar for a GM after 4 years.
Good We like bars. And maybe soon we can make that standard.
If Poles isn’t better than 9-8 in 2024, he should be fired BEFORE 2025.
If Fields stays, then I would expect a continued improvement, just as 2023 was an improvement over 2022. But a hard reset with a new offense, coaching staff on offense - and a new rookie QB1 too, may result in a transition year. We are in essence starting over on offense. People think Caleb Williams will be Stroud. That probably won't happen. I'd be thrilled if it did happen but Stroud was an exception. Let's face it. The Bears are usually not a good exception to the rules. And if Fields is not here, then 2026 becomes the new 2025. I could be wrong but that's my gut feeling. We are "starting over" on offense. Hard resets can reset the clock.
It is interesting to see how the outside world rates the Bears. Are they wrong, or are we delusional? Go Google “nfl power rankings 2024” for a sobering experience… The Athletic, PFF, ESPN,, or any others. Everybody has the Bears way behind the Lions and Packers. Maybe they are just projecting 2023 standings into 2024.
Surely, having #1 and #9 is going to get us into 10-12 wins, assuming we can split with the Lions and Packers. I think 2024 comes down to how we stack up with them, and that’s TBD.
If I had to bet I would say they are correct. National media over the last several years tells us the Bears are not very good and we think we no better until the end of season and we're in shock they were right again.
I’m not a jumper yet, but I definitely have concerns about getting qb1 set and done right. I’m soon to be 66 years old, and we have yet to do so. Crazy, but it’s how we roll. My other concern is locking up JJ. We need to get him signed and not FT’d. If we truly change qb1, we don’t need any other distractions for the team and having a contract issue with JJ would certainly be one. A calm and settled locker room will help a new qb immensely.
