yeah, that is kind of the thought process I have seen in a few articles. That's good if you have already decided to trade him. I had hoped they had not arrived at that decision. At least not yet. The good news is that if they have, then they must be pretty sure Fields is not going to get them where they want. I still say he breaks out when he gets to his new team.
I would surely hope they already arrived at the decision will they trade Justin or not! What could change!? I do hope they didnt pick their new QB yet though.
The offseason gets underway starting next week at the Combine. That's when GMs first start chatting to each other and when deals start to be conceived.
I expect Fields to be traded within the next month or so. They need to meet with Williams at the Combine and make sure there's no major red flags in the interviews and then it will be time to make the move.

Its only a matter of who and how much IMO.
Williams could be a fine young man and the negative stuff we read about him has been blown out of proportion.. The fact that he is going to directly negotiate his own contracts with the Bears (no agent involved) makes me a bit uncomfortable. Not a deal breaker, but not a great way to have to deal with a guy in a long-term relationship as your QB1. And there could be a possibility that when everything is weighed by the Bears after meeting with the top QBs in the draft at the Combine - that they choose to go with Maye. There are some problems with Williams game that Maye is actually better at - and vice versa too. Positives and negatives with both guys. The Bears just need to sort it all out and hopefully get this right.

If we are running a West Coast offense I'd prefer Maye. Actually I prefer Maye either way. Williams is just a shorter smaller Fields.
That's my take on it too. Watching college games of both QB's it is amazing (to me anyway) how Williams looks like Fields. They do have some differences, but it is amazing how alike they look. Both hold onto the ball too long trying to extend plays. I do believe Caleb processes what he sees on the field faster than Fields though. That is a big plus to Williams over Fields. Of the three guys, Fields, Williams and Maye, I have the feeling Maye is a better all around QB.

Hmmm...I disagree
He's way faster on reads and way better in the short-to-intermediate game where Fields really struggles.
There's a lazy narrative out there that CW "holds the ball way too much" just like JF does. People are looking at the the 2023 season when USC had no WRs and an abysmal defense that gave up 35+ points a game. CW did play hero ball too much last season when he had to put up 40 points to have a shot to win. That will need to be coached out of him for sure. But....his release and reads are way faster the Fields when he isn't trying to win the game all by himself.

If Poles likes Maye better after careful review, I have no problem with that.
But I doubt that will end up being the case. Maye has less games under his belt and most consider him to be a distant 2nd to CW in the QB rankings.

Yeah, but are fields when he has time and a guy open. You give a reason that CW had a dismal defense as to why he held the ball too long, but dismiss any reason for Fields.

I'm just hoping the Bears get it right. They have a lot more information to go on than anyone else, and surely more than us fans. I have listened to some NFL people ranking Maye above Williams, but admittedly they are in the minority. I have no clue. Fields, Williams and Maye all have positives and negatives. Perhaps one of the best articles I have read about these 3, and the Bears' decision to go with one of them - made a good point for going forward with Caleb Williams. This guy said to look at the floor for Williams and realize his floor is probably as high as where Fields is at now. So, even if Williams is not the "Sure Thing" that the pundits and talking pod-heads are telling us he is. At least we won't be any worse off than we are now with Fields. And we will have Williams on a rookie contract. I did like that candid evaluation of the situation. We can all argue about these three guys' ceilings. But at least Caleb's floor should be at where we are now with Fields... and of course he very well could have a sky-high ceiling and end up as a GREAT quarterback.
The only things I personally worry about with Williams (and I know that it is just me on this) is that his height is probably smaller than he is being listed at. Some are saying he's actually going to measure closer to 5'11" at the Combine or maybe 6' at best. That's not a deal breaker. But it might explain his issues hitting those mid-field passes as well as you'd like to see. He may be struggling a bit seeing those targets. Or not. Maybe it is a nothing-burger and it has zero to do with his lack of height. The other thing that I don't like is the report he is going to negotiate his own contracts and not have an agent. Again, not a deal breaker, but it could be less than ideal down the road... having your QB1 doing this seems like it could be problematic... especially if he ends up being a diva, or worse a nutcase.

Rumors at the beginning were that he wanted whoever drafted him to give him an equity position on the team. uh-huh
