And while I realize it is a one in a million shot, I am still hoping we keep Fields, do a tiny trade down that allows us to nab Marvin Harrison Jr, and then Newton. If we have procured a 2nd round pick - then by all means go C with that. I think all three of the top centers will be studs. I would be thrilled with Johnson, but my personal favorite is Frazier.

I am standing tall with you on this. (No Penix references, please)

Thats not the U TE's main job. His job is to catch the ball, not be an in-line blocker. He's essentially a big slot receiver. Doing it and being great at it are two different things. I'm sure he doesn't expect his receivers and a U TE to be "great" at blocking. I'm sure he expects them to give effort in blocking. Do you see the difference? If he wanted "great" blockers at the position EQ would have been a starter at WR.

I am with JABF on this. I don’t want to just grab a guy like Kramer in third round, and Lorin Cox says that once Poles pays Johnson, there won’t be much to spend on free agents. Powers-Johnson is probably going first round for a reason. He’s looking like a plug-and-play solid starter. That’s what we finally need at center. Get the problem fixed. Stop dinking around looking for a lucky, cheap solution.

We have a lot of cap room...even if Johnson gets $21 mill we'd still have $50 mill in space if we cut Whitehair and Jackson.

Right. We just do not want guys who whiff their blockers or make a half-assed effort, because they are more interested in protecting their bodies than making the block. Flus wants guys willing to stick their nose in there and lay a good block on the guy.

Scouting reports say he’s versatile and could also play guard. Bottom line: I believe if you wait to third round, you’re getting second best — not the cream of the crop.

Recency bias. If the Bears draft a center at 9 I might have a stroke. Give me the center from Georgia in the third and I'm good. Either way, all those mocks are gonna change drastically once the combine happens, and then again after pro days. Mocks right now literally are next to meaningless.

I am not criticizing his blocking. As you say, he’s not expected to be “great” as a blocker. I am just saying this is one of the things Flus will be looking for in the tape.

And the mocks will also change when FA hits. That will impact the draft to some point for some teams.
