Bears to hire Shane Waldron new OC

No...don't do what we did to Whitehair. If you draft a center, just play him at center.

I would expect the Bears to allow Waldron to lay out his best plan to fix the offense, and see who he he wants to implement that plan - he may want Caleb.  But he may prefer Fields.  We don't know.  Waldron won't see these QB's as what they were last year but rather he will evaluate them for (what HE believes) they will be in his offense in this next season and beyond.  It's not about fixing Fields so much as who is the guy Waldron wants as QB1.  I won't be shocked if it is Caleb, Fields or another QB in this draft.  My only point is that it is a bit of a meatball fan thing to just "assume" we know whom he prefers in his offense.    

The difference now, though, is that Waldron is coming to a team with the #1 pick. So, in a way, he may not have to adapt to a particular QB. I have to think Poles has asked, or will be discussing with Waldron, what he would need to run his ideal offense and what QB he thinks has the best tools to do so out of who's available this year, including Fields.

I think we are saying the same thing.  The OC doesn't "run" the team.  But obviously a healthy functional team works as a team to make better decisions.  A dysfunctional franchise would work in a vacuum and just jamb anyone down an OC's throat and then "wonder" why the QB failed.  Everybody needs to be on the same page personnel wise... at least reasonably so.  Could Waldron "adapt" to any QB given to him?  Sure.  But it may not result in optimum results with "whoever is picked" - and I know that you know this.  I am so hoping that this front-office and coaching staff can work together to build the roster in the best way possible.  Doesn't mean you get the best/perfect players.  Nobody in the NFL gets perfect.  But it can still be a roster that fits together in a way that there is a synergy - that old "the whole is greater than the sum of its parts" thing.  Too many times we've seen disconnects on the Bears with square pegs being hammered into round holes... it never has worked well for us when we do that.  

Waldron has laid out his plan to management and it met approval and he was hired.  The #1 most important asset to an offense is the QB1.  Us fans just gotta hope the Bears get this right.  They will work together to get it right.  Use your best minds and resources to get it right this time.  I feel pretty good that they will this time.  I am optimistic that the Bears have some good people in place now to make these decisions.  LOL, at least I hope so :-)
