+1 Poles and Eberflus will probably be betting their jobs on this one. In Poles' case he is probably betting his GM NFL career because GM's that get fired usually don't get another bite of the GM apple with a 2nd GM gig. If this off-season's moves fail the consequences will be extreme for those two guys anyway. If they bet on Fields, I have to believe they truly believe in him because the safe bet would be drafting Caleb Williams. Poles could survive a Caleb bust. But sticking with Fields is fatal to Poles if the thing goes south. JMO.
I don't think he could either. He had a shot of getting CJ Stound and failed. If there is another QB like that in the draft and he failed to get him. Then you can kiss him goodbye.

yeah. I agree. I was excited (and still am, but a little more realistic) about Waldron. I saw an article that compared his production to Getsys and it was almost identical. That was kind of a letdown.....
Yep, one of my biggest concerns is they're bringing over Waldron as a last attempt to fix Fields like he fixed Geno Smith. Passing up on a 4k passer just to get Fields 500 more yards in passing.

Waldron could go either way on the QB, IMO. I don't think it sends a signal either way. It does make me a little more comfortable though that if they do stay with Fields, he may be the guy that can help continue his development.

I agree completely, JABF. If Poles flubs this offseason, his career is over.
Sticking with Fields would be essentially Ryan Poles putting the rope around his own neck. He damn well better be right--and that means a large and permanent jump for Fields--or there's no way he survives the blowback of passing on TWO #1 picks at QB.
I'm willing to wager a large amount of money he's going QB this year and Fields will be traded. Poles didn't draft him and Poles isn't gonna go down with that ship.

Getsy was a poor choice. I think we all can agree upon that. He was inexperienced as a play caller, his personnel packages were odd at times, and he tended to go to the well too many times (Nagy did the same with his gadget plays). It would have been way smarter to being in a more experienced play caller who also had QB-development-skills beyond being the guy that cleaned Aaron's cleats.
However, as Ric and I have both pointed out, he didn't have a lot of good options with the limitations Fields has. Both of us have mentioned how Fields' "issues" made both the short and intermediate passing game difficult to execute. Getsy took the fall. I'm not shedding any tears for him but let's not pretend like Justin wasn't a big part of the problem.
For those that disagree, please feel free to explain what, besides throwing a good deep ball when time permits, that Fields does well as a passer.

Yes, and I’d bet that is how he is thinking about his job security. Nobody would fault him for drafting Caleb. Motm data says there’s a 30% failure rate with QBs drafted #1. Warren could just chalk it up to bad luck.

This is one of those chicken and the egg things. Was the QB limiting the OC or was the OC limiting the QB? Many more of the post gam analysis I read during the season pinned it on play calling. We will find out if Field stays. Or goes to a team with a good OC. It's also possible he will go to another team with another crappy OC and he will continue to fail.

Either and or both. Why can't both be true. The OC is limited by the QB, and is also not creative enough to come up w/something that does work.
Fact is Nagy is a terrible OC; he's hurt Mahomes and KC O; but Mahomes and Kelce are so good they can work through and past it.

Over and over again in the Shoutbox we would be STUNNED by the play calls. People would be stroking out over them (me included). Getsy just did not have a clue. If people want to blame that on Fields I think it's a bit delusional. But I am tired of arguing about it. Let's see what the next OC or team can do or not do with Fields and then we'll have our definitive answer on him. But for now it's just crazy conjecture.
Getsy had to go. Never seen someone so in love with screenpasses that he almost spent a whole game with half his playing calling as a screenpass. Rodgers made him look good. Nothing else. Just like Nagy only looks good cause of Mahomes.
