Anyone finding they're warming to the Bears drafting Caleb?

David - I am not sure either way just for the record. I do know that conditions have not been right for Fields and I see improvement and I see incredible athletic ability. I also see a QB that holds the ball too long, takes too long to process the field (but has gotten MUCH better than before at this) and does not throw with anticipation. I think one of the OCs we are looking at had had good luck in decreasing release time (Waldron I think). It is possible that since he has gotten better at processing, he can continue to grow. Not sure how well QBs have been able to get better at throwing with anticipation. I am guessing that it is a growing trust issue as well as doing it more. I combine this with how long (and how many attempts) it has taken to get a guy with his skills and mental toughness. I also look at how we have squandered almost every attempt at a QB. And then not been able to do anything with them after we got them. I look at what we can do with those picks to move the team forward if we get coaches that actually know how to grow a QB and call a game.

I then look at the other side of it. When will we be able to have another opportunity to get a top pick QB? (assuming the pick isn't traded away anyway, which very well might happen). This opportunity does not happen often. We should not pass it by. But then we can't move forward on building the team as much if we take a QB with the first pick. But we are in a super enviable position that we have another top 10 pick, so it won't kill us. I am not convinced Williams will work out any better than Fields even if he is better (of which I am not convinced) because once we get our hands on him, we have a way of stunting their growth. Then we lose Fields and a year of QB development. Anyone that thinks that the Bears are going to get Love type performance from a rookie is dreaming. Love was learning for years in a system that grows QBs like oysters grow pearls. It just happens.

So, I hate to pass up the opportunity to change QBs is ours is going nowhere. This opportunity is not going to present itself again. I also hate to pass up the opportunity to build the team with all the picks we have if we don't pick a QB. It all keeps coming back to whether or not Fields can develop like we want. I don;t know how many times in how many threads it keeps coming back down to this. If he is not our guy, no hesitation to pull the trigger. If he is, we have a golden opportunity to take a HUGE step with the team.

We are all looking at the same data. Some of us are just seeing or feeling a different interpretation. We all want the same thing here. And to continue to go back and forth on it really doesn't accomplish much. We all want the right path but none of us know what it is. And we can't affect it anyway. And trying to convince each other to see it "our way" is meaningless anyway. Because if all of us were to come to a unanimous conclusion, it won't matter. All that will matter is what Poles does. And even though I think he might be leaning a certain way, I don't think he will make a decision until he sees what the trade value of both the first pick as well as Fields trade value will be. He can't decide which has more value until he knows the value of all the components. So, once again..... All we can do is wait to see what he does. And then we can argue about that. And then we wait to see the results of whatever he does. And that gives us both another chance to argue about that as well as to see what position was closest to reality. We just don't know. If we did, we would all be in agreement on a course of action.
