Constant turnover is killing us.

Poles would be paying Fields LESS than a new QB in 2024. If he plays as badly as you guys predict, then screw it. Let him go FA or trade. But if we’re looking near Super Bowl ready in 2024, go ahead with the 5th year option in 2025. By then, we know his true ceiling because we have seen two years of playoff games. If he looks like Dak in those games, he gets NO big extension. Seems to me this meets your concerns.

Don't think you're understanding how this works.

Fields 5th yr option must be exercised by May 5th THIS YEAR. You don't get another season to evaluate him beforehand. That's why 2023 was so critical and Fields failed to make meaningful improvements as I cited to you in another thread laying out all his 2022 & 2023 stats side by side. And BTW the 5th yr option becomes fully guaranteed when you enact it; you can't rescind it later.

Its not a backbreaker cost-wise but also not something insignificant you want to waste either. Fields didn't show enough to waste the money IMO.

I repeat, JF1 has a career rating of ~85 which is slightly lower than Mitch. He "improved" year 2 to year 3 only from 85 to 86.

Sorry, this is false.

CW is way, way quicker on diagnosis and release and has way better pocket presence. Only element Fields wins on is running and Caleb is no slouch in that either.

No, not any more than before. Still don't know for sure if Fields can be the guy or not and am not convinced Williams can be any better. Do know that picking other blue chip players that the team still needs would help the team. Have to trust that the people in charge can determine if we need to go with a new QB and then to pick the right one. Two decisions that have to go right when we have a hard time ever getting even one of them right. Just sitting back and watching what happens and then seeing the results of those actions. Really not much more that can be done.

This post isn't specifically about Williams. Personally, I don't get caught up in the hype surrounding the various prospects at specific positions. The people who create the various social media posts and online articles all have their biases, agendas, limits to their abilities, etc. I do like people who offer their opinions as opinions and who try to show why they have that opinion and leave it up to you to decide who you like or don't like. I have gotten a little skeptical about Williams. Not that I think he is a bad or highly flawed prospect. Just based on the level of hype.

More from my research on QBs in this draft. I am not claiming to have done so much research that allows me to speak authoritatively on this. Just that I keep poking around and I think I have found a pretty serious researcher on the QBs in the 2024 draft and am sharing it here.

The content creator has his YT channel named TheFranchiseGuy. He really likes Caleb Williams. But I have watched some of his other videos analyzing the other top QB prospects (Penix, Nix, Maye, etc). He really goes into detail and seems pretty fair and objective. In the following video he readily admits that Williams does not live up to the hype. But he thinks we should draft him at #1 anyway. I recommend you visit his YT channel and look at his "First Look" videos. There is one for all the top QB prospects, including Williams.

Absolutely not. I do not want Caleb Williams.

I'd prepare myself to be disappointed then.

Cuz Caleb is consensus #1 pick overall by a wide margin. It isn't close unless something really surprising is uncovered during the pre-draft scouting process. And, for reasons I've stated here multiple times, Poles is drafting Fields replacement this April. He isn't gonna tie his future career to a guy with a passer rating of 85 who has been twice way outplayed by Jordan Love.

I'm still very much on the fence. I'm not personally sold on Williams, but I also hated the idea of drafting Mahomes because he was compared to Cutler. So, what do I know? lol I'm also not sold on Fields so whatever the Bears decide to do I'll just sit back, get caught up in the offseason hype like every year, and prepare to be dissappointed in the regular season like usual.

You have to go with Williams. As much as I would love to have DJ Moore + Harrison Jr. You can't move forward in the NFL with a Tier 2 at best QB and expect to be consistent every year. Building around Fields helps you for 1-2 years before we have to draft another QB. Fields is at best a Dak type player. Do you want to give him 40 million a year in a few years?

We have two top 10 picks. Pick Williams #1 and what ever best graded WR that is left at #9.

Solves two problems.

I disagree, they did it for money reasons. Bears don't like paying 2 HC at the same time. When you have Jim Harbaugh interviewing for NFL jobs right now and didn't even attempt to reach out to him says something about ownership. CHEAP!
