Sorry David, that trade down was 100% worth it last year. We even talked about this QB class being better this year. Not only did we get a legit #1 WR on a team friendly deal. We also got the #1 overall pick this year as well as their 2nd round pick next year.
Last year was a complete rebuild year and we needed the picks and players. Its much more different this year. Expect Poles to go after a QB with the #1 overall pick. My bet is Williams. Then we also still got the #9 overall pick.
If we go QB this draft. My standard is playoffs this year and next and maybe 2026 NFC Champ/Super Bowl visit.
I am not crowning his ass until I see a Super Bowl ready team by 2025. You are giving him to 2026. JABF jumps around on this, but I think he’s stlll at 2025. butkus seems to have already crowned his ass.
It all depends on how FA and draft goes. If he sticks with Fields my expectations is a lot more than going after a rookie QB.
If he sticks with Fields, I expect Fields to throw for 3.5k yards and win one playoff game since we would draft Harrison JR and someone else at #9. Anything less I want him gone. Even adding Harrison Jr. I don't see Fields throwing for another 1k yards. Just not his play style.
With a rookie QB. I understand their is a 3 year learning curve. I do see this team as playoff bound as even with a bottom tier QB. We almost made it there. I believe Williams is a more talented passer than Fields. So a wild card spot is my expectation. Not even a win.

I just think it is reasonable to expect this team to be much better this year. Then in 2025 it will be Poles/Eberflus' 4th season here. That's 1 year for the teardown and 3 years for the rebuild. It just seems reasonable to expect a legit solid playoff team by then. Not a team that has to get into the playoffs as a wildcard or one and done team, but a legit powerful team.

My definition of Super Bowl ready is that, going into the playoffs, the Bears have as good a chance as anybody to win the Super Bowl. I don’t want to be the Cowboys. Do you? But I guess their fans would call them a “legit powerful team.” Like Kyle Brandt, I call them a pretender.
Is it a given that we move on from Fields this year if we draft Williams? Maybe we grab Williams (or whoever) and let him sit a year. See what he looks like in training camp etc and make the Fields decision next year?
That would be one of the dumbest moves the Bears could make. Not only do you not get value in trading Fields (2nd round pick). Now you create a locker room situation where some guys will be team Fields while others will be team Williams.
Having Williams sit behind Fields is not like having Love sit behind Rodgers or Mahomes sit behind Smith.
Fields is a bottom tier QB in this league.
No matter who drafts him, Williams isn't "sitting a year". He's starting week 1 for whoever drafts him. No one "sits" the #1 pick. Never gonna haoppen.
LOL...whats it like to live in your world man? Neither of them were knowns back then. There were legit questions about both QB's and this was always seen as the better year to draft a QB. Poles would have been a FOOL to pass up on the trade he made and there isn't a person alive but you who would think otherwise. But you go on believing what you believe.
A miss is a miss. The Texans didn’t miss. The Eagles didn’t miss. We will see what happens next. My standard for Poles is Super Bowl ready by 2025. That’s my bottom line on Poles. It won’t change.
My point in bringing up Stroud was that Poles didn't get his chance (or passed on his chance) last year to draft a QB. He's not gonna pass again. He caught lightning in a bottle by getting massively lucky enough to get 2 consecutive #1 picks. That won't happen again in our lifetimes.
People, media, fans, etc all understood why he made the trade last year. He won't get another pass this time. He has to take a swing on finally fixing the Bears 40 year curse at QB in April.

Poles is entering year 3. He needs to start showing some results this year. SB ready in 2025 feels aggressive to me but maybe he can pull that off. It's gonna come down to success at QB and yeah Poles' ass will ultimately be judged by who he drafts at #1 this April.
I'm pretty damn sure we aren't sniffing any SBs with the 4th best QB in the NFCN. If he hits at QB this spring, the sky will be the limit.
I'll set making a postseason berth in 2024 as a reasonable goal. 2-4 in division isn't good enough.

News Flash...Bears didn't miss either. They hit and then some.

No objective person can say he's done a bad job. Only YOU are complaining about Poles putting us in a position to draft one of the most highly thought of QB prospects since Andrew Luck while also winning 7 games, because you had a man crush on Carter.

Wrong. You are not reading what I wrote. I WILL join the Poles bandwagon IF and ONLY if Bears are Super Bowl ready by 2025. Maybe if I write it enough times it will get through to you.
