Anyone know who this ex-scout is? Is he just a nut, or someone who knows what he's doing?
LINK Now comes an opinion from a former NFL scout. Daniel Kelly spent four years as a scout for the New York Jets. He also wrote a book, Whatever It Takes, about a fan who makes it to the NFL. He had a strong opinion on Williams and it was not a positive one.
Kelly took a look at Williams over the past two seasons. He gave his opinion and he did not hold back on his criticism.
"He’s much closer to Johnny Manziel than Patrick Mahomes on the spectrum. I mean that with respect and sensitivity, but that’s what I would say if I was a scout sitting in the pre-draft meetings.
We witnessed Caleb Williams having a mental breakdown right before our eyes crying uncontrollably in his mother’s arms. To me —as a former NFL Scout, he’s the most mentally fragile player I’ve ever evaluated, quarterback or otherwise.
He has little experience dealing with adversity even by his own admission..."
No objective person can say he's done a bad job. Only YOU are complaining about Poles putting us in a position to draft one of the most highly thought of QB prospects since Andrew Luck while also winning 7 games, because you had a man crush on Carter.
Wrong. You are not reading what I wrote. I WILL join the Poles bandwagon IF and ONLY if Bears are Super Bowl ready by 2025. Maybe if I write it enough times it will get through to you.
You do you. Sounds good
Whether it's '25 or maybe a little later, the Bears SB "readiness" depends mostly on getting way better play out of their QB. They have a ascending defense. They have the foundation of a good OL and good receiving group. They have good draft capital and FA money to deploy.
Poles is entering year 3. He needs to start showing some results this year. SB ready in 2025 feels aggressive to me but maybe he can pull that off. It's gonna come down to success at QB and yeah Poles' ass will ultimately be judged by who he drafts at #1 this April.
I'm pretty damn sure we aren't sniffing any SBs with the 4th best QB in the NFCN. If he hits at QB this spring, the sky will be the limit.
I'll set making a postseason berth in 2024 as a reasonable goal. 2-4 in division isn't good enough.
So are you out there at 2026? 2027? How long?
David, the reason the Bears aren't looking "SB ready by 2025" right now is that they don't have a QB!
The reason we can't trade down from #1 and draft MHJ is that we don't have a QB!
Ryan Poles DID NOT DRAFT the guy that choked on the chance to become that QB this year. Sorry but that's the brutal reality here. If Fields had racked up the production of Love or Stroud this past season, we would definitely be "SB ready in 2025" right now, wouldn't we?

So answer the question. 2026? 2027? How long? Does Poles just get a blank check from you?

Once we get the QB we can truly start planning on a Super Bowl run. Without a QB, we have a bottom tier QB who is last in his division.
Once we get Williams. Expect 2026. 2024 will be a learning year for Williams.

So I’ve got you marked down for 2026. It didn’t take Stroud 3 years. If Williams is the real deal, it won’t take 3 years to know it.
Stroud didn't win a Super Bowl or get to the NFC Championship game. I expect year 3 is when a rookie QB breaks out and you can truly tell what their floor is and where their ceiling is.
That's why year 3 was make it or break it for Field. With the #1 overall pick and best prospect since Luck. The pressure was on for him.
Interesting comparisons to players coming out of college who had similar or exact stats as Caleb after they were drafted. Oddly there are a lot of similarities to Mitch Trubisky?

Stroud took a team that was as bad as the Bears in 2022 to the playoffs in 2023. Williams is coming to a better team than the 2022 Texans. His rookie performance should be at least as good as Stroud’s (only equaled by Brady and Montana rookie seasons).

Oh I expect the Bears to go to the playoffs next year. Williams is a much better QB and Fields hurt his team from getting there. Just that I don't see Williams winning one until year 3. Even the great Mahomes first season starting didn't make the Super Bowl. I do expect #1 or #2 in the NFC North.
