You ain't wrong about that. When the packers defensive players have said. If you want to beat the Bears. Have Fields play Quarterback. They knew something we as fans didn't.
Sorry, I shpould have realized the Packers players knew him better than the Bears players. I keep missing the obvious. Glad you caught that!
Ever hear the old saying that your enemies know more about you than your friends do.
What you want to be true just so you can continue to trash Fields doesn't make it true.
There was a 4th rounder on the table, but it was to a situation where Fields had no chance to start.
As for your histrionic "he needs to be fired" comment, not only does he not deserve to be fired, he made the SMART play.
What people with your attitude of shitting on Fields every chance they get fail to understand was Fields was absolutely LOVED in that locker room. ALL of those guys were ready to go to war with him. The locker room valued him a lot more than you will EVER comprehend.
"So, what, they are pros and they will get over it" you might be tempted to say. But these are team mates, human beings, a ton of whom had a great relationship with Fields, looked up to him, and highly respected him, and a lot of whom were PUBLICLY advocating for him to stay. What I find is a lot of people with your attitude GROSSLY underplay the significance:
Poles, by trading Fields, is risking a locker room meltdown and mutiny, thus undoing EVERYTHING he's been working towards. Had he just coldly traded Fields for a 4th to another team, the locker room would be looking at each other, calling the organization shit, and the locker room would have been LOST. Poles would have had to start all over again, and sell off pieces, IF he lasted that long. People want to ignore that this is a very REAL thing and even now still a very REAL possibility. All one has to do is look at Jaylon Johnson's latest podcast appearance, where he talks about Williams needing to leave all the "Hollywood" shit at home when he comes into the locker room, to see that what I am saying is 100% true.
However, Poles mitigated the risk of losing the locker room by trading Justin to a team where he has a chance to start this season, AND taking less to do it. You may feel its a fireable offense; the locker room will feel like Poles actually did right by Justin, thus taking some of the sting out of the trade, and opening a window for Caleb Williams to at least have a CHANCE to win over the locker room - Poles is playing chess, and you want him to play checkers.
On top of that, the whole Pro Day visit was as much about the locker room as it was about the team and Caleb. The Johnson comments on the pod cast came out a day or two before the pro day visit, and Johnson said Caleb needs to be "humble" coming into the locker room.
Then all the press coming out of the Pro Day was all about how much Caleb loves football, is good with his team mates, is indeed a humble dude in person, etc - in fact it was suspicious in that it appeared to be a 1-to-1 addressing of what Johnson said Caleb needs to be when he comes into the locker room.
And on the flip side, Poles traded for Keenan Allen, who not only is another amazing mega receiver, but ALSO someone Caleb Williams has known for a whole year while Caleb was at USC and Keenan was with the Chargers, so Keenan being at the Pro Day was also a way to assure Caleb that even with a semi-hostile locker room, he will have a friend in Keenan in the locker room to help support him while he tries to win everyone over.
This whole thing was about trying to smooth out the locker room troubles. Whatever you think of Fields, he was talented enough to have this kind of impact on the locker room. Players don't just behave like this for "nice guys" - they do this over players the locker room believes in....
Oh please, we've seen this happen countless times in the NFL. Alex Smith was doing very good and the Chiefs drafted Mahomes. Didn't kill locker room. Love was drafted after Rodgers MVP year. Didn't kill locker room and they have their future QB. We literally traded away Khalil Mack and it didn't kill the locker room. We traded away Quinn. Didn't kill the locker room.
As a GM, you do what's best to get your team a Super Bowl. A low 6th rounder for a backup QB is still a pathetic offer unless the player was just that bad.
Every situation is unique. The locker room in KC wasn't rallying around Alex Smith. Those guys knew Alex's limitations.
This is a different scenario entirely and you are being a narcissist by projecting your own issues with Fields onto that of his former team mates in that locker room.

And the players were in a much better position to judge his talent than any fan dude looking to be right.
Indeed. I have to question someone who acts like his opinion on a player must be 100% validated like it is a matter of life or death, to the point that they would refuse to take input from the team mates of said player, which if that input was taken, would allow him to form a better, more informed, and therefore more valid opinion than the meatball one currently stated....

You don't think the Bears locker room didn't know Fields limitation? Players always back each other up.
3 years of Film exposed him.
Field value is a 6th round draft pick. That is fact. Unless he gets 51% of starter snaps in Pitt which means he's a 4th round pick.
Mason Rudolphwas a 3rd round pick btw...
Let's pretend trash isn't trash. Again facts back me up. I'm tired of feelings.

Yes the locker room did know his limitations. And they wanted to keep him. Look, why don't you let this die and wait and see what happens in Pittsburgh. Stop with the bottom tier of QBs stuff and just see what happens this year. It will tell a lot. And just go forward with the team this year. Let Fields go already.
As far as facts go, anyone can pull something out of facts to justify a position. It depends on what part of the facts you want to focus on. Just move on.

+1
motm let's let the Fields stuff fade into the past. It's time. I think all of us want to look to the present and future now. Spamming the messageboard with Fields posts is not cool. I'm asking nice... help us out and let's move on.

Just saw a short video of a couple of long throws to Nabors. Buy, for a skinny tall dude, he can really throw that ball. It was impressive. Hell... there may may be two generational players in the draft. That is worrisome. I would age another 200 years. On top of the dozen or so generations I have already lived through. No wonder I feel old.

Lets see, Joe Montana, Terry Bradshaw, ...... Mahomes, CWill. there are one heck of a lot of generations in there. I'm really really really old.

Yeah...cause those two examples are exactly like this...
How'd the locker room react when the Bears drafted Cedric Benson?
