Anyone finding they're warming to the Bears drafting Caleb?

One of Purdy’s strengths as a QB is that he’s gutsy enough to hang in the pocket as the WR completes his route, throws at the last possible second and completes the pass just before getting crushed by a 300 lb. Defensive lineman.  That’s playing within the structure of the system instead of bailing out of the pocket and trying to create something on the run.  You don’t know what kind of quarterback you’ve got when the pass blocking is either great or terrible.  It’s when the blocking is barely good enough to complete the pass within “the structure of the system “.  That’s what they are talking about.

My early take on that, is that he will listen to the veteran coaches around him, and the respected veteran players, like Keenan Allen.  They will help him play with in the structure - but he will also do "Mahomes stuff" when it is necessary.  He seems to fully grasp that this is the best way to win at the NFL level.  Caleb seems (extremely) passionate and driven to winning.  

I like the fact that he played on a crap USC team with a crap OL.  As much as he is driven to win, he must have really suffered, experiencing the frustration of having to "do it all" because that team flat sucked.  He is coming to a team here in Chicago that has a better offense and defense.  At least the 2024 version of the Bears is a lot better.  He will never have "perfect" surrounding talent.  That perfect level of talent doesn't exist in the NFL.  But the Bears will put a very solid supporting offense out there this year - without question it has more talent than I have seen here in Chicago (on offense) since the 1980's when McMahon (when healthy) was playing here.  Caleb has an incredibly talented D.J. Moore to throw to here.  He has a Hall of Fame talent in Keenan Allen (one of the best route runners in the entire NFL, who is in his prime), a solid TE in Cole Kmet - and we've added TE Gerald Everett.  The running game is stout (always a QB's friend to have that).  This OL should be better and deeper than what we have had here in years.  And we have a top-5 NFL defense (at least they were in the last half of the season last year).  

Caleb Williams won't have to "be" the team here.  He can now play quarterback and let the solid players around him help the TEAM win.

Due to this fact, I expect Caleb to play within the structure of the system.  However we do have an extremely gifted quarterback who can ad lib when a play does fall apart.  He seems like a sharp young man.  He understands that if he wants to stack wins here, he needs the TEAM to perform well, and not just him doing his own thing.  From his post-Proday interview he seems to 100% understand that.

Yes, that board (years ago) was the CBMB.  LOL, I was a much younger man back then... even had some hair left on my head back then too.  I remember mightyjoeyoung there and I liked his posts.  LOL, it was a "wild west" kind of board though.  There was an old codger there called 63BearsFan or something like that who was a character.  Dude would get everyone riled up with his "theories" about winning.  I wasn't too bright because I never could figure out what the old geezer was trying to say with that theory.  I pictured him as an elderly dude hammering on a keyboard in a nursing home somewhere.  Now I am damned near that old :-)
