The 8-point loss to Green Bay to end the season was a hard loss. And the Getsy problems were all there to see. He got fired and now we can upgrade there (that list of available OC's has some outstanding names on it). I am feeling pretty good about it all when I factor in the immense draft resources we are holding and cap dollars available. People are jumping off ledges after this 1st year of the rebuild and it seems pretty bat shit crazy to me... but that's me and maybe I'm wrong about this. But I've gotta feel like the arrow is pointing up here.

The "jumping off the ledge" has nothing to do with the record. Most of us thought 7-8 wins was most likely.

2023 was 95% about fixing the passing offense and Fields breaking out.

Neither happened. Bears finished the season 29th in pass offense. They improved slightly from 31st in 2022. Just terrible

Nowhere near good enough and we have a QB controversy because of it with the OC getting canned. If Fields and the O had produced at GB/Jordan Love levels, all of us would be popping champagne corks right now and talking about a SB run next season.

I agree with that. The offense remains badly broken. A new offensive coordinator is a good first step in fixing it. The Bears have the draft and cap $$$ resources to fix the holes on the O roster. That may or may not be with Fields as the QB. But I believe the offense CAN be fixed this upcoming season. Obviously, we don't know that it will be fixed but all of the resources are there to get the job done. I'm ready to move on from 2023 and I'm more forward-focused now to see what does happen in 2024. The Bears have an incredible opportunity with these draft/FA additions. That list of potential OC candidates I really liked (I enjoyed reading up on some of them today). Yeah, I'm looking forward not backwards now. I'm trying really really hard to not let 2023 ruin my 2024 - and I'm not just talking about football here. A few weeks ago I buried my mom, the last living family member I had left of my immediate family... and I lost some very good friends too. I won't go on about the other stuff that happened... but I am trying hard to look at 2024 with a positive attitude and forget the bad stuff of 2023. And that includes the 2023 Bears season :-)

I get it. I just think the offensive game planning was so much worse than any defensive decision Flus made, so I'm not all worked up about a coach not getting fired who essentially met expectations from the beginning of the season.

Yes, I feel defeated. It was the way we lost those games. Games we should have won. Bad in-game decisions. Bad game-planning, play design and play-calling. On both O and D. Yes the D improved, yes he held the team together, but against weak opponents. I just don't have any confidence in Flus. Now we have him for 1 year, a lame duck. Worried about what decent OC wants a potentially one year job.

Maybe an experienced quality HC can be calling the O or D plays, but I don't trust a rookie/short timer HC to do that. I suspect Flus' workload led to poor in-game decisions.

My glass is normally half full, but today it's 3/4 empty.

Ecstatic that Getsy and his subordinates are gone. So I guess after all that is said, my glass is 1/4 full.

Yeah, I think largely he did fine calling defensive plays while HCing. Yes, there were some gaffs and terrible calls. All coaches have them. But progress was made in the first year of a rebuild after tearing down the roster. I don't want to be the Carolina Panthers with a tempermental owner who acts like a toddler. Getsy had to go. His game planning and play calling/design was awful and it truly held this team back IMO.

Yeah...I'm ambivalent. I get why they kept him, so I guess thats why I feel the way I feel. If I didn't understand it perhaps I'd feel differently, but to me Flus wasn't the main culprit in this teams failures. The Bears have asked permission to interview Shane Waldron, and that seems to be a good start to the process.

These are 100% my thoughts. This past season was all about knowing what we had in Fields with no excuses as knowing this would provide directional clarity for the team. Now we have a f’ing mess and all they’re doing after a lot of “collaboration” is flipping over the OC and related staff for “continuity” sake?!?! Brutal.

If the offense could actually score points (TDs) then the three 10 point 4th qtr collapses likely wouldn't have happened. So, if the new OC can get this offense on track, suddenly we aren't going to scrutinize the defense as much.

Yes! Do we lose those games if the offense doesn't take the foot off the gas and keeps attacking? Some of the players mentioned that at times. Thats not to absolve the defense, but I hate when teams don't take advantage of the opportunity to step on a teams throat.

Yep, they had a golden opportunity to reset everything from HC on down and get everything aligned. That's the infrastructure good organizations put in place to drop a new 1st round QB into (plus players of course).

I don't understand why the Bears feel this obsessive need to hang on to remnants of a previous regime and carry that over into a new one. And that is what Flus is. Look at the list of dismissals from yesterday and this season. The only members of Flus's staff left, the people HE CHOSE, are the ST Coordinator, the assistant punt coach, and the valet who stocks Flus's locker with hair gel.

Why hang onto him? Is he really the only HC who can "unite the locker room"? Come on....that's not serious.

Poles made it clear he went to bat for Flus. He LOVES Flus. I wonder if he loves him too much to be objective.

Poles owns this now. It's 100% on him, good or bad. He better nail the OC and QB or he's a dead man walking career-wise.
