Packers beat Bears (as always) - who gets the deflated ball?

It was from a sideline reporter during the game.  I guess we will hear more soon, if they’re doing anything.  I’ll tell you this: If they draft a QB instead of Harrison, we’d better hope he’s as good as CJ Stroud.

That's kind of the point, isn't it?

Last year they had the #1 pick, passed on drafting a QB, and kept Fields over CJ Stroud (in effect).  This was after passing on Mahomes the last time they were in this position.
 
This year they have the #1 pick again, can they afford to NOT draft a QB?



Hate to tell you but I'm putting my money on Poles drafting a QB #1.  He's not tied to Fields and Justin simply hasn't done enough to warrant passing on a rookie in this class.  2300 yards/year just won't be successful in the modern NFL.

Well, this game bummed me out. I really thought we had at least a fair shot at winning it.

After thinking about it a little (which is all I am capable of doing), my perception of the game seems to be different. I'm probably wrong but I felt the game was lost in the trenches. Both lines failed us. The D did not play well. GB was able to move the ball fluidly down the field. They made it look easy. We did have a few pressures and 1 sack (I think it was one), but we were not disrupting their offense very much IMO. I have seen our secondary and LB corps play much better. Did we have a crap defensive strategy? Not sure. But I am sure we did not adjust to what was happening. And our front line just could not get any penetration. (and I value penetration).

Most people are blaming the OL. Yes, they played badly and could not pressure Love. Now, I am the last to praise Patrick, but he actually was stout going into this last part of the season. Both he and Nate were out. So we did not have our normal line. I know we would have done better if we had. Better enough to actually stop the pressure? I don't know, but I would have loved to see how our best effort would have stood up to their line. It would have given me an idea how much more work the line needed. As it was, it was a sieve. Hard to watch.

I also have my doubts about Fields like most of us do, but honestly, I did not see much I blamed on him. I thought he hit his guys when he had time. He did not have much space to use his legs. He was constantly under pressure. I blame the two lines, and the game plan.

Flus has really helped the D, but I really believe I would rather see a better HC and give me Fangio back. He can do as well (much better IMO) on dialing up the defense. Top notch D guy and a better HC. Same with OC. We need better.

I'm ok with keeping Fields if we get the right guys. I am not sure we can do that. So far, we have not been able to. I have trusted Warren, and maybe he is still right, but when I hear that stability is more important than changing what I am seeing, I get worried there too. No not sure what we will get next year. These guys get close after being in the trenches shoulder to shoulder for a season. I fear that they allow the relationships to cloud whether or not the coaches are doing their job or not.

This is also what I wrestle with. But I still think Fields can truly shine.
