Ahhhhh. I get it. No I don't. I'm confused. Is it The Society of the Branch of the Club, or the Branch of the Club Society? And we have settled on hanging vs firing? Should there be a corporate secretary taking notes? Or would it then be the Branch of the Club Society, Inc.? So many questions.....

I put other. This was a disaster in both sides of the ball today. Fields was an idiot for ripping GB earlier in the week. Like they need help or more motivation to beat us. Coaching was horrendous. Why we play the cover 2 against GB who had been beating it for decades is beyond me. Offensive play calling was horrendous. Fields can't do the short game that's needed to succeed when the defense keeps blowing up the OL. Restart the QB clock and tie a HC/OC to him. Time to do it right for once.
Well, after sleeping on it, I'm still disgusted. Packers had the 30th ranked DEF according to DVOA.
(1) Fire Flus (2) Fire Getsy (3) Move on from Fields. Don't care how or when, but they can't go into next season with 11-16, 143 yards and 30 yards rushing, no TDs.
I did expect a loss, GB had something to play for. But to lose in the same way, again. To the same team, again in the same way. GB never punted and only failed to score because the clock ran out at half time. OFF ran at the strength of the DEF on second down seemingly every single time. Completely outcoached and outplayed, again.
I'm going to wear out my F5 button refreshing windycity today looking for this headline:
OK So what did you mean then? Cuz that's what it sounds like.
The next time I hear/read someone say we should stick with crap because no one better will work out anyway I'm gonna scream. Just for the record, Houston was one the few more crappy teams and franchises than the Bears the last 5 years and they turned it around with a QB. They didn't pass on him cuz "he wouldn't work out here".
Hey I get it. I'm pissed about the whole thing tonight. But you misunderstood me. And I don't always explain myself well, I know that. But my point in all of this is that regardless of whether you keep Fields or draft a kid, the team needs to put in place the coaches and supporting roster talent for a QB to succeed here. My hope is that they do that this year. I have been hoping that Fields can be a good QB for us. But if the Bears move on, I am not going to have a hissy fit over it. I will just hope they bring in some OL help and another WR or two - and certainly a better offensive coordinator, to help the new kid. And if they would decide to keep Fields I still hope they do those exact same things.
EDIT: The thing that makes me crazy angry is that this is still a failure by the franchise after all of these years. The problems we have on offense are not new. Now THAT is what trips my trigger. But of course I want the team to do better moving forward. I am not giving up hope, although a sane man would, right? :-)
Buddy, I'm crazy angry too. I spend a ton of $$$ on season tickets so I can see games when I fly in to see my mom and other family and the team has only been good once sin the last 10 years.
It sounds silly to say this but "why can't we have nice things?" applies. I get that many hires and many players won't work out but the Bears seem to mastered the art of always picking the wrong people and then sticking with them too long out of fear of the unknown. Then they finally fire them and repeat the cycle.
Flus ain't the guy Getsy isn't either Fields isn't either
Can we not settle once again? We have the #1 pick plus Harbaugh out there for the taking. Helloooooo?
How damn hard is this? Apparently very hard since we passed/missed on Arians, McDaniel, Mahomes, Stroud, etc., etc. And I fear we are about to do the exact same thing again.

And funny you should bring up that old saying about nice things... this morning running errands with my wife I was thinking the same thing. And regarding the nice things, I'm not sure the Bears know "how to assemble" the pieces to put a nice-thing QB together if they got one. Getsy can't. If they bring in a QB I hope they ALSO bring in a guy who knows how to set the new guy up to reach his ceiling potential... and Poles fixes the OL and WR room too. This time around I'm hoping the Bears get it right. I'm not saying they won't or can't. Just saying that they haven't to date got it done.

I think you and I are saying the same things in a different way.
I view Fields-Flus-Getsy as a unit tied together (call it FFG). FFG was assembled 2 years ago to grow together. Its no different than other QB-HC/OC pairings. Have you seen improvement? Yes, very modestly only. They have beaten only 2 good teams together in 2 years and one of those was in a monsoon when the Niners blew two coverages for TDs.
It has not been enough. Especially when you see the strides being made by Campbell-Johnson-Goff and LaFleur-Love. We are in danger of falling very far behind and I say that because we are ALREADY in the cellar.
But you are right--The Bears will probably do something monumentally dumb like:
Fire Getsy as a scapegoat and keep the other two. Chance of Flus attracting a good OC candidate = ~ 5%
Fire Getsy and move on from Fields which would pair a lame-duck defensive HC on the hotseat for 2024 (who knows nothing about QB development) and a new rookie OC with a new drafted rookie QB.
Take a wild freakin' guess how well that is going to go.
Hint: doomed to failure 95%
If you want to talk about how things "don't work out here", THAT IS HOW AND WHY.
I'll bet that's exactly what they are going to do cuz that is what they always do. My only hope is that Kevin Warren is savvy enough to not let that happen. I don't give a crap how nice a guy Fields and Flus are. They haven't got the job done and they had 34 games to show it.
