Wright instead of Carter was a monumental miss. Nobody here will ever admit that.
False
Again, you are assuming Carter will be amazing & trouble-free and Dexter won't be nearly as good. We have seen time and again what Poles values -- size (esp. "length"), aggressiveness, and absence of character or locker room concerns.
The latter two account for he did NOT draft Pickens and Carter and for why he DID draft Wright and Stevenson. He doesn't want divas, knuckleheads, and embarrassments--a rule-of-thumb I'm sure was driven home after he took a chance on Claypool and got burned badly for it.
Eagles coaches and players praise Carter. Yes, he did something very stupid. He’s on track. Nobody can predict the future.

Which might be why we should wait a couple years before declaring what was a "monumental miss."

Dooood you still crying over him? Are you somehow tied with him? Let him go.
The Eagles are starting to collapse from within so we shall see what happens with him. Maybe he will grow into the big sexy stud you see in him or perhaps he will fall. It doesn't really matter because he is there and not on the Bears.

It matters. The Bears would be a different team with the Defensive Rookie of the Year on this team instead of Wright. But you guys will be in denial forever.
Actually his yards/return is #13 in the NFL this year. You have to sort it by Yds/Ret and uncheck the box "When table is sorted ..."
Not saying he hasn't had his issues.
Unfortunately, kickoff returning has been largely taken out of the game by the NFL. They have completely de-Hester'd kickoffs.
Think I read a stat where this year only 20% of kickoffs are even even returned anymore. Most are touchbacks or fair catches now.
The ONE THING Velus does reasonably well now has virtually no impact on Ws & Ls.
Actually, that is an improvement. Remember when he was muffing catching kicks in the PS?
We'll have to see what happens with him in the offseason through the beginning of the 2024 TC. IMO there should be lots of decent WR prospects in the 2024 draft/UDFA population. SO we might have a replacement.

I'd say Velus has a ~ 30% chance of being on the roster opening day 2024. And about 10% chance of being active.

Would he still be defensive rookie of the year race? Would he be able to tolerate how bad we started off?

My opinion: yes and yes. But you can say he would have started drag racing down Wacker Ave. after the second game, and nobody could prove you wrong.

I think Carter is a stud. Guy is an animal DL. But I personally thought that he was more of a gamble pick that the Bears could not afford to lose on. I understand that all college kids coming to the NFL are a gamble to varying degrees. But Carter seems like a higher risk than the typical draftee. I was uneasy taking that level of risk with such a high draft pick at a time when we simply could not afford it... it's always bad to bust on a guy, but that 2023 draft in particular was pivotal. We couldn't afford to get another Tank Johnson guy who ends up in jail. I hope Carter has a great career, but I have no problem with the Bears not drafting him at the time. And the key there is "at the time" when it looked too risky back then. The Eagles rolled the dice and won. Good for them. We did well too.

I don't know about your skillset. But visionary and clairvoyancy is not among them for me. I don't have the ability to go back into time, change around a few variables to completely upend the future like you do.
I feel with your skills you should use them for good instead of what you are doing. Perhaps go back in time and draft us Tom Brady oh and grab Billicheck while your at it. Also can you become the owner of the Bears and give us all season tix? I mean forget all that why not end war and famine! You will become one of what songs and stories are written about.
