Fields finished the season with 2500 yards. Last year he had 2200.
I'm quite confident a new QB will exceed that next year as a rookie.
You and motm drive me nuts with this total passing yards as the only relevant consideration. What we don’t know is how many yards he’d have next year with a GOOD offensive line and Harrison. That’s the fundamental difference between the some of us and you guys.
I'm sorry, but the answer is no. Just because he had two decent games against a bad Falcons teams and the abysmal Cardinals is nothing to be proud of. Especially when you've only thrown for more than 300 yards once this season.
I'm with brasil above. Fields' may not be good enough. We can do better than Fields. Just not this draft. Maybe next year. We have more dire needs at other positions than to gamble on yet another QB this year. Let's finish his rookie deal and see what we have with a better OLine, better WRS and a real OC. (Hopefully).
What's the guarantee that a QB of similar potential is going to be available the next draft? Also the likelihood we're going to have a draft pick this good the next year is pretty much nil. So the only way to get the guy we actually want the next year means giving up a trove of draft picks to move up. That's if the teams the top draft picks don't want to draft a QB and are willing to part with it. If the top 3 teams all want a QB then we would be out of luck.
We didn't draft one last year, traded the picks, and gave Fields a chance. He didn't prove he was the guy. So now we need to move on.
This team is notorious for holding onto people a year too long. Fox, Nagy, Trubisky, and so on. Sometimes it's because we didn't have a choice. But we have a choice now. Let's take it.

Having another receiver, regardless of their skill, isn't going to speed up his clock, mental processing, or decision making. Why can't we get a QB who can get 3000 yards with out having to have two pro bowl receivers to do it?

Because he is always getting sacked?
There are plenty of games when he's not getting sacked and he's still not getting it done. Also it's well known that many of the sacks are due to him holding on the ball too long and not getting it out when he needs to. He has a slow delivery and doesn't always process the field quickly. There are teams out there with much worse lines that have QBs that can still throw for 3000 yards in a season.
I think Bears fans are so used to bad QB play they don't remember what actual good QB play looks like.

I know. And honestly in mid season I was really questioning him. I just don't feel the same way today. I see a lot better execution and ball placement. I see better decision making. He still holds onto the ball too long, but I don't know if any of todays sacks are attributable to that. I didn't think any of them were when I saw them, but maybe a review of them might change my mind. He does need to process the field quicker. And he needs better anticipation. I don't think those faults had a chance to really alter this games outcome. He was always running. And not the good kind

Exactly
Yes, I know Fields would benefit from A, B, & C. EVERY QB would.
It shouldn't require a perfect setup for a true franchise QB to show high potential. And btw, David, 2500 yards is pathetic. 3000 is the bare minimum and most good QBs throw for 4000+ nowadays in 17 games.
I desperately wanted Fields to show me he was the guy. He just hasn't. He's had 3-4 really good games in 3 years and in the rest he struggles to over 150 yards. Needed to see more and he had lots of chances, today being a bid one against a terrible pass defense. Today wasn't his fault admittedly but at some point you gotta stop pointing the finger and look in the mirror. He's had 38 starts for crying out loud.

Young threw for 312 yards with 2 TDs against the Packers... With no DJ Moore btw.... The fact Fields did 148 yards which is less than half is a joke...
The worst team in the league did better than Fields. We need better.

I didn't see the game, but in order to do that, I suspect he didn't have green and yellow jerseys hanging on him
