The more I look at Williams, when he is playing against ranked opponents, the less I think of him as the absolute best college QB I've ever seen. And the less I think that every GM in the league has him pegged as the top QB in the draft. Just look at his performance against ND.

What if Poles has someone else in mind as his desired QB. And he can't trade down a spot or two and still get Harrison. Then get a QB with our #9 pick.

I did watch him this year, including watching that ND game. He does not seem to handle pressure very well in those key losses this season. And that pressure is NOTHING compared to the pressure and even physical beating he will take at the NFL level. I see bust written all over him.

I'm not concerned about him being a total bust. There is always the risk of any draft pick being a bust. Obviously the higher the pick, the worse it looks if it happens. It's just that he seems to be incapable of winning a big game against a quality defense. And his decision making when under a strong rush could use a lot of improvement. Not exactly the traits I expect form a truly "generational prospect".

i wonder if Bagent showed Poles enough to keep him as the backup. These days it’s essential position. Nix would be an upgrade.

If you restrict your statistical research on QBs to exclusively the passing game, Penix is head and shoulders better than any other prospect in the 2024 draft class. My research shows two distinct drawbacks in his college career.

First, he missed a load of games while playing in Indiana. He had several surgeries including 2 ACLs and serious injuries to both shoulders (link). Both shoulder injries were serious separations but I am not sure if they were surgically repaired or not.

Second, his running stats as a college QB are almost nonexistent. I like to see some running success as I tend to view it as an indirect index into the guy's mobility and ability to escape pressure.

Fir the Bears vetted him on both and wanted to take Penix, I'd be cool with it. As I said his passing performance is off the charts and it is just the other two things that keep me off his bandwagon.

Penix needs an OL where he can just sit in the pocket and throw darts. Nix has the mobility to run RPO, scramble, etc. Critics say his arm isn’t strong enough. I disagree, but that will drop him in the draft.

I don’t think Poles would have the guts to draft Nix. I’d say he has a lower ceiling than Williams but a higher floor, if Caleb turns into a head case.

Williams stats under pressure are pretty abysmal.
