You're preaching to the choir. We know. But it's done
But isn't pretty common practice in the NFL to not keep a coordinators staff coaches if they fire him? Why would we want Getsy's offense staff retained? What am I missing here with the angst over staff firings when the coordinator was fired? I don't get it.
These guys were not all fired today. Staff has been getting fired here and there all season. If Poles/Eberflus had better judgment in their hiring decisions, nobody would need to get fired. Better hope your learning curve kicks in ASAP.
I said Harrison at #1. I am not interested in trading down so far that he misses on Harrison, but it wouldn’t surprise me if Poles does it again.
And I want a blue-chip DL or WR with the #9 pick. Don’t trade away that one, either.
My measure of success is winning games, not how many yards Fields throws. To be on pace in 2024 to be SuperBowl ready in 2025, we should be at 10-12 wins in 2024. That is my no excuses marker.
If we are 8-9 wins and 3rd or 4th in the North, people around here besides me should start calling this “rebuild” a failure. Deal?
DEAL
IMO Flus is playoffs or bust next season which is why I don't understand pairing a new OC with HIM in a prove-it year. I'm also on record in another thread saying the POLES OWNS THIS as far the Flus/OV decision goes. In fact, this whole offseason is a career-defining time for him. If he flubs it, I'll be calling for head too and I'm not encouraged by this first move.
Also, "winning games" and the QB playing well (defined in yards, TDs, whatever) go hand-in-hand. Unless you're expecting a top-5 defense next season, Fields has to take a major leap forward next season if he's the QB.
He's out of leash and out of excuses in year 4 for sure. Many would argue he's already out.
In a balanced offense, you don’t need a QB to throw 4000 yards. If the team goes where I hope next year, Fields throws 3500+, we rush 2800+ and total offense is 6000+. That would be a top-5 total offense and 29 ppg.

This post is so comical I don't even know where to begin.
1-Your main knock on Fields is that he holds the ball too long. Do your damn homework before posting. Caleb Williams is near the VERY BOTTOM of all college QB's in terms of time holding onto the ball before passing. In another post, someone actually posted a link that compared Fields time to pass vs Williams time to pass where both stats were taken from this year. Williams was a whole .01 second better than Fields. Now, given that Fields is 10x more mobile than Williams, paint yourself a picture of what that will look like next year - Williams behind center with the same time to pass as Fields. I'm not even going to go into how bad that would be. If you think this year's offense was bad you have a whole lot of preparing to do 2-Williams lack of maturity/fragile mental state. We've seen the breakdowns on live TV on many occasions. Refusing to shake hands with opponents after losses, refusing to speak to the media after losses, running to mommy and daddy and hiding after garbage performances. He is immature, fragile, and can't handle the pressure of college - what do you think a year of being abused behind our OLine will do to him? 3-Williams is an ego-maniac. His agent is already stating that from a compensation point of view, Williams is expecting part ownership of the team that drafts him. Are you F'n kidding me? Who does this guy think he is? 4-His dad is HEAVILY influencing his decisions. Usually, this would be a good thing. However, in this case, it is not. Remember the Eli Manning draft debacle where he refused (with the direction of his father) to play in San Diego? We are seeing the EXACT same scenario play out here. Williams (through is father) has already stated there is only 5 or 6 teams he will play for, and the Bears are not on that list. If he gets drafted by the Bears, he will most likely return for his senior season. The other route is to refuse to play and demand a trade route, similar to what Eli and his daddy threatened the Chargers 5-There are dozens of articles out there from analysts and ex-NFL scouts that make cases for Williams being a huge bust. Google is your friend here. 6- Williams was 2-9 vs ranked teams. What does that tell you? 7-Fumbles. He has almost as many fumbles as games started. Yikes.
My point is this - you are blabbing about Williams and I know damn well you haven't watched a single USC game. You are stuck on the pre-2023 groupthink that he could be the #1 overall pick. Data now tells us otherwise, and there are more articles arguing against being the 1st overall pick (or even 1st QB taken) versus supporting it. If you think Fields isn't the guy, that is fine with me, but don't sit here and tell me Williams is.
In doing some preliminary research on Caleb, in fairness you gotta admit he's looked very quick, accurate, and sharp on short-game throws too.
No one is allowed to criticize Justin here or to call out his obvious flaws. The mantra that it's all the coaches' fault is practically a scared dictum among the fanbase right now.
I watched Justin carefully this year both on TV and from the stands at the 40 yard line. I saw week 1 in person when Getsy went haywire with the horizontal throws to the flat (WR screens, tunnel screens, etc). In mild defense of Luke, the Bears SUCK at running them and Fields is part of that. Watch some tape from GB with Rodgers when they ran those plays then watch the week 1 footage of the Bears doing it. You will see the difference.
Rodgers was lightning quick getting those out and almost always placed the ball ideally for the target to catch and run immediately. Fields is SLOW(ER). Sorry if that pisses anyone off but he is. His windup and delivery are not as quick and compact thus the ball comes out later. He also not infrequently put the ball in a less-than-ideal position for the receiver to make a smooth catch and run (low, high, little behind, etc.).
These are quick timing plays that require precision to be effective. The net result of imprecision is that defenders are more apt to avoid, slip, or beat blocks on the perimeter which turns a 6 yard gain into 0 or even a loss.
Again, sorry if that offends anyone but Fields simply hasn't been very good at executing them precisely like they need.
Remember in that preseason game when Fields threw a WR screen in the flat to Moore and he made 3 guys miss and took it 60 yards for a TD? The throw from Fields was CRAP. It was low and behind IIRC. Look at it again. Moore made a good play just to catch the ball much less taking it to the house. That was 99% DJ Moore being great, not Fields "throwing a touchdown pass".
What do you mean by "No one is allowed to criticize Justin here or to call out his obvious flaws"? Are you being serious or is this a joke? We here are imo very realistic and down-to-earth, with (of course) different opinions. Fields has been criticized here plenty, including myself.

Didn't hurts throw for 3700 yards in his super bowl run last year? He also threw for 3800 yards this year with his lack of weapons.
I don't see Fields as a 3,000 passer let alone 3,500+ passer.
If this team is 8-9 next year. I want Poles gone. He owns the mistake of keeping Flus.

Is Moore leaving?
Moore is not leaving. Mooney is leaving. I wanted JSN last year, and I still want a slot receiver who is a great route runner and chain mover.

We all have different wants, but I myself am not on board with using both our top picks for a WR. I am good with Harrison on our first pick, but would like to see a rusher or 3-tech on the second pick. A C in the second round and then whatever else they want to do. I do think we need more than Harrison, but not with both top picks. We have to fix the OL and DL too. Harrison won't be as effective as he needs to be without the OL and better coaching/play calling

I want Johnny Newton or a top edge rusher at #9 as my first priority. With Eberflus coming back, we can almost predict that the second pick will go defense. Yet somehow I want a good slot receiver.

At 9 overall you better be getting an awesome slot receiver.

Hell... the dud(e left off on purpose) may use our first pick on D. But hopefully, he will just be blowing in Poles ear and Poles will do what he thinks is best. I would also like to see Harrison. Somehow, I think he trades down and we don't get him
