Eberflus has Poles to cover his ass with Warren and MCCaskey. Poles loves Eberflus. That’s the core problem here.
I was thinking about this. Poles is very possibly staking his career on this. He has skin in this game and if he fails and gets fired he probably will never get another GM opportunity again. Fired GMs usually don't get a second bite of the apple. There is zero chance that Poles sticks his neck out for Eberflus unless he believes he can stake his career on it.
Been a fan of Poles for taking decisive action to blow up the roster a year ago (it was overdue).
He did a great job fleecing Carolina too and the Panthers GM was insta-fired on Monday morning for agreeing to such a lopsided deal.
But....this offseason is his career-defining time. If this blows up, he owns it 100% and I will be joining David in calling for his head.
Scapegoating the OC (as bad as he was) and keeping Flus is the ultimate worst-compromise IMO. I've asked over and over on these boards hpw that could possibly work and no one here has any answers. Let's see if Poles does. He better salvage this shitshow somehow cuz the rest of us see Bears management making the same dumb mistakes they have made over and over, with QB after QB.
You own this 100%, Poles. Whatever the results, it's ON YOU.

He didn't scapegoat the OC. He earned the right to be let go. The Flus thing.... well, neither of us agrees with it, but yes, it is on Poles

Hoge just talked about this on YouTube. He says Poles honestly believes Eberflus is a great coach, saying “Ploles has visions of Eberflus being carried off the field next year after winning the Super Bowl in New Orleans.” McCaskey or Warren would have to fire Flus over Poles’ dead body, and that’s not how things go in Halas Hall with all their value on “collaboration.”
Hoge also made a good point that the coaches Eberflus hired — DC, OC, RB coaches, TE coach, QB coach, WR coach have now ALL been fired and yet Eberflus STAYS. Throw all the coaching staff under the bus, while Poles defends Eberflus in his conference with Warren.
Regarding the staff, it may simply mean that they needed to be replaced. A young 1st time HC has a learning curve. Now, with two years experience he has a better understanding of what is needed and the network now to better identify and hire better people. Regarding Poles truly believing in Eberflus let's see what happens. I keep remembering the Browns thought their first-time head coach, Bill Belichick was a bust and fired him. And it ended up he was a good head coach. There is a learning curve associated with hiring first time GMs or HCs. If a franchise is not able to endure the pain associated with that then they should stick to hiring guys with experience. Eberflus could still be a good coach. In his defense, in these two seasons he was tasked with a first season of riding out a tanking year with a roster that was emptied. This season he had 30 new/young players.
The Bears could reload with much better coordinators now. If Fields does benefit from the new coaches and the added talent from this draft, then the team is right on track for a 2025 SB ready year. I am not saying that "will" happen but that I could see it happening if the team gets the coordinators the team needs - and of course does well in the draft and FA.
Will it happen? I don't know. But I am going to hope for the best here.

I have the same visions. But my vision had pitchforks in it

Regardless of Getsy's suckitude, they just fired all of Flus' chosen subordinates, dude. OC, DC, and a bunch of position coaches all gone now.
Who the hell cleans house in a department but keeps the department head who hired them all?
Come on, man, this is not standard best practice in any serious organization.
But yeah Poles OWNS THE RESULTS 100%. If/when this blows up, it completely on him.

No one has any answers to your question because no one here supports the decision. 3 direct meltdowns on DEF leading to three losses. 2 games the DEF was utterly unprepared for (both GB games). That's 5 losses I directly pin on Flus. He should have been fired the day after the Cleveland loss.
Unless the players 100% all came down on keep Flus or else, I don't understand what just happened.

Now maybe I'm wrong here, but when you fire a coordinator, don't the sub coaches go most of the time? I thought that was pretty much standard practice in the NFL. If it is, then I understand why you would do that. The new Offensive Coordinator should have the opportunity to bring in his position coach level guys. Otherwise you keep Luke Getsy and his guys, right? And who wants that?

I can take an educated guess. As the season goes forward these guys develop deep relationships. I believe that Poles decision was not 100% objective. I think he let the relationship color his decision. But of course, I have no way of knowing. Just a guess because the decision does not seem to be the best decision for the Bears.

Honestly I think a majority of the players came out strong for Flus and most if not all of the vets on OFF came down hard on Getsy. I think this is the same reason that will result in Fields trotting out there on week 1 against GB in GB.
