It would if they didn't call passing plays all that well. Or if he didn't have a chance to air it out because he had no time. He can do it, but has not. So is it him or something else. I am thinking it is the something else
He is NEVER gonna have 5-6 secs to throw in the NFL like he did at Ohio St. That will NEVER HAPPEN in the NFL. Avg time to throw is about 2.5 secs in the NFL. Even the best OLs can maybe stretch that avg TTT to barely 3.
DLs, blitzers, and edge rushers in the NFL are just so much better, faster, and stronger on average in the pros plus there's way more parity than in the college arena.
To me, all the bad stuff we see with Fields all stems from "mental clock" issues. He holds the ball too long, he doesn't throw with anticipation very well, he tends to avoid attacking the middle of the field, his windup and release are slow and methodical, his quick-throw accuracy isn't great, he doesn't look fluid and rhythmic getting the ball out quick(er), he doesn't diagnose blitzes and zone coverages as fast as he should, he takes a ton of sacks and fumbles too much.
Been waiting for "the game to slow down" for him all year and still haven't seen it. It's gotten a little better but not enough and not consistently enough for me to want to keep feeding quarters into the slot machine.
