ok, I know everyone talks about Caleb, but as far as a pure passer, Michael Pinex looks really good to me.
Butkus, you got any inside info on this kid? He has a hell of a line he plays behind but seems successful thoughout his career. Do his injuries worry you?
Penix is my 'best buy' at the moment too
His long list of injuries are a concern for me. Even more so with our OL turnstile shuffle.

I haven't paid attention to the college QBs, but if this injury stuff is true, then HELL NO! Our Kennedy Expressway of an O-Line lets everybody through and he'll end up as a busted up bust.

He has had 2 knee surgeries and 2 shoulder surgeries. Not sure how many were season ending but still that is a lot to take on considering what we have gone through with QB's since.......Forever really lol.

When Penix is pressured he folds like a lawnchair. They were talking on the Score today about how a lot of the West Coast teams he faced don't play tough D like the teams Michigan faced. But Penix will have to face tough defenses in the NFL and if he isn't the same QB when pressured then I smell a backup quality QB here. Not a QB1.

LOL
He sure had a tough night yesterday didn't he. I too am skeptical of a QB whom had a ton of stud talent on his offense around him.
I can hear the excuses already if we draft him....

I'll bet there will be a QB or two in this draft who end up being good starters for their teams. It may not be Williams or Maye but one of the "others" in this draft. Or it could be both of them. The game is sooooooooooooooo different at the NFL level for quarterbacks that you just roll the dice and hope for the best. And it's hard to forecast how any of these guys will perform when they go to a bad team after being on a team with an obscene level of talent. I thought I heard on the Score (it may have been another source though) where they talked about one of these top quarterbacks (I forget which one) having 3 WRs who will be drafted... these are guys going against college D's that are light-years from the speed/complexity/quality of NFL defenses. Some of these WC teams basically play pitch-and-catch compared with what they will face in the NFL. Obviously, a lot of these stud QBs in college (even Heisman winners) fail to make the transition to NFL ball... or they are career backups bouncing from team to team. I'm not saying you don't roll the dice on these guys. Just pointing out that the Bears are not going to have an easy time getting it right with a new QB1. But it's like they say. You can't win the lottery unless you buy the ticket. But buying a ticket doesn't mean you'll win. You probably won't.

This is why I hesitste to move from Fields. If I was convinced he was the problem, it would be different

I posted this in the Shoutbox. This morning they were talking on the radio (I was in the car a lot this morning listening to people talk about the Bears... I think this was on the Score though). Anyway whomever it was talking, they were saying how Green Bay historically understands how to develop a QB. This isn't "luck" here. They talked about how the Bears historically have no clue as to how to develop a kid (giving him the coaching and supporting roster talent to succeed). Just "drafting a QB" and then expecting them to flourish here with the environment we put them in - well, it just isn't going to happen here. But Green Bay understands and they grow successful QBs there. When Aaron Rodgers enters the Hall of Fame, he will be their 4th Hall of Fame QB in the Hall. That's not just Pro Bowl QBs, but their "best of the best" Hall of Famers at QB. I was pretty much ridiculed here when I said Jordan Love was a good QB. Hey, he will be very very very good for them... better than any QB we have had here in decades. The Bears? They will "draft a kid" and expect the miracles to "just happen" and we will all be sick when the kid fails.
One other thing that I'll admit pisses me off. There have been a number of times I've posted about our QBs not having the level of talent needed around them to flourish here... there have been multiple times I have been admonished that "no QB gets perfect talent around them" - but I never said perfect. And time after time over years here I have said that no QB gets "perfect" - but - I do believe that if the Bears ever want to get it right at QB they need to get better supporting talent around that kid coming out of college. And anyone reading this - hey, spare me the comparison with "Player X" who has less than perfect talent and how he has done well.
I get that there are exceptions to everything. So spare me that crap comeback.
But here on the Bears, with QB struggles and failures - why on earth wouldn't you NOW pull out every stop to assure a success at QB by having better talent - coaching AND players? Which brings up another gripe I have here. We way over value our talent. We often think guys here are good when they are not good. They are JAGs. Guys who would not start on most good teams, and who probably wouldn't even make the roster on some teams. But we think they are okay. They are not okay. And having 2 or even 3 "okay" offensive linemen doesn't mean the OL is okay either... like the QB is supposed to somehow overcome that because "Player X" on some other team has a less than okay OL. It is NOT okay. The problems here are the same problems GM after GM and HC after HC and QB after QB. At some point you'd think they would build a great OL here and put real weapons around a QB (not just this year adding DJ and thinking our receivers are "good enough" for the QB. They are not good enough... LOL, I'll pipe down now but I sure am frustrated. This is not rocket science. At least it shouldn't be.

I understand and sympathize with your viewpoint.
What would it take to convince you? Year 4 with his 3rd OC and Marvin Harrison? Will that do it?
I'm just wondering where the Fields-defenders intend to draw the line because o/w the goalposts keep getting moved. If he can't put up Stroud/Love type of numbers with a new OC and MHJ added, will that be enough?
