A few positive thoughts about where the Bears are at now.

The Bears do seem to have more going for them in 2024 than what we have seen in a long time.  Regarding Fields leaving or staying I figure there could be success either way... depending upon the other moves made by the Bears.  I do feel more positive than negative right now.

Those are good questions.  Personally regarding question "A" I think a large part of the bad start on offense was due to Luke Getsy and an offensive line crippled by injuries, having to play OL out-of-position, flip flopping the players on that line - and the OL went into the season without a starter-quality center.  When some of the OL guys got healthy we saw improvement... but it took several games to get to that point.  And the center problem remains today.  The victim in all of this was Justin Fields trying to overcome Luke Getsy, horrific play-calling and a start to this season with a crap OL play.  Not making excuses.  Just stating facts here.  Fields made his share of mistakes too.  No question.  But there were concrete contributing factors to the horrific start to the season.  

The firing of two employees was damaging for sure.  Eberflus and Poles hired two bad coordinators and that hurt badly.  But both hires (at the time) seemed like good choices.  Most, if not all of us, liked these hires.  Obviously, in hindsight they both were bad hires though.  Personally, in my own life experience, I have been part of the hiring process (and firing and promotions) for many years - and no matter how much background information you have, sometimes we got it wrong.  It happens.  My background is law enforcement so you can probably imagine the depth of background data that goes into the hires/promotions.  I doubt that many private sector situations come close to matching what we did on prospective hires/promotions.  But at times we whiffed.  More than once we sent people to prison - we messed up that much on the hiring/promotions.  I do consider my own personal experience when I think about someone like Poles or Eberflus making a bad hire.  It happens.

The defense was much improved with the Sweat acquisition.  I suspect we will witness something similar with the offense in 2024 if the offensive line is upgraded too - and as we have discussed a lot here, we need an offensive coordinator who can game plan and call plays better - and adjust better in-game.  Regardless of who the QB1 is next year I think the 2024 offense will be significantly improved.  

These are positive thoughts that I personally have regarding 2024.  I have no clue as to what the Bears will do this off season.  But I don't believe they need to blow this thing up again.  I hope they are strategic and fix what is broken and keep what is not.

We both agree on MHJ and Newton.  I do hope the Bears go that route.  But we'll see what actually happens.  I am cautiously optimistic at this point though.
