The years roll by... the GM's and the coaches change, but this has pretty much been our situation (most years) for the past 30+ years here in Chicago. I think the ultimate tragedy was drafting a QB1 who "could have been" a solid franchise quarterback here for years to come. But the Bears had no clue as to how to support him, develop him - and win with him. I think that if the Bears had provided the coaching and support for an offense to thrive here, that Justin Fields would have been a good one for us. I will always believe that. It breaks my heart to have watched the failures on all levels with this offense. It's our annual ritual here in Chicago. The GMs and coaches change but the failures on offense never do... heartbreaking stuff for sure.
A question for you. After three years, do you think JF is a better QB than, for example, Cutler? Think about it for a while, compare stats, wins, coaching stuff, supporting cast...
As a passer, NO. Cutler, for all his flaws, had stretches of high-end play. Remember when he took a garbage offense to 7-3 before breaking his thumb when Knox fell down? His primary receivers were Earl Bennett and Hester.
We have never seen Justin do that.
I'm not pining away for Jay by any means. He wasn't good enough either and he, like Justin, held the ball too long, didn't throw with anticipation consistently, and turned the ball over too often. But as a passer, he was better than Fields has been. It's like pulling teeth to get Justin to 200 yards a game.
His AVERAGE this year is 180 and its even lower for his career.

Don't forget about Roy Williams that year!! LOL...seriously though...outside of DJ Moore, I'd take Earl Bennet and Johnny Knox in a heart beat on this team right now.

Cutler's TE was Kellen Davis I believe and he sucked. Kmet is a far better player.
But yeah, with Claypool failing and Mooney regressing massively the last 2 seasons, the Bears need a major talent infusion in the receiving corps once again.
Its damn depressing but I am back to rooting for 3 more losses to finish the season. At least that would maximize draft capital and ensure these coaches will be replaced.

Man Kellen Davis was turbo bad. He is just opposite to Kmet, he dropped EVERY pass.
I'm going to wait till I watch the All 22 and give my vote, but from just viewing the game my vote is for the offense, and especially Getsy. This playcalling was awful, and generally has been awful. Took 8 plays and 86 penalties to score from the 1 and even that took a crazy play from Fields to make happen...just scared coaching IMO. I'm eager to watch the All 22 and see ALL these supposedly open receivers that Fields was supposed to hit in the ridiculously clean pockets he had all game...I'll let you all know what I see.
When you watch the all 22, please tell me what the hell happened on the 3rd and 15 pass to Njoku where Flus CLAIMS that Jones was assigned to cover NJoku. How is that even possible? I don’t believe it . I have my own theory, but what did you see on all 22.

True, but he also had Matt Forte still I believe, right? Moore was an unbelievable addition, no doubt...but this team clearly still needs more weapons on offense. My biggest fear with Mooney was that the injury would affect him mentally, and thats the only thing I can come up with for this massive regression in play with him. He's just not making plays or catches that he made his first and second years in the league. Truly puzzling.

I don't have to watch the All 22 for that one. I can tell you for a fact thats what happened. Now Jones wasn't manned up on Njoku, he was dropping into a zone, but as Flus said...its still not a great call given the situation. At least Flus took ownership for that one...he put Jones in a bad position where his odds of success are slim to none. Different situation in the game and you want to run that, cool...but that was a time where Flus got too cute.

What a horseshit call! The game is on the line, and he calls for that. If Njoku ran a good route and beat a DB, I can accept that, but this is ridiculous.

Here's what happened:
Flus was in his usually late-game conservative turtle-mode in soft zone but on that play he went schitzo all the way to the other extreme. He dialed up a 6 man blitz with Jones dropping back (yeah, idiotic I know) hoping Flacco would have to dump it off short for a rally-up and tackle stop.
Well, Flacco recognized it immediately, bought an extra half-second of time by sliding in the pocket, and made a beautiful anticipation throw to where he knew his TE would be.
Flus reluctantly admitted in his post-game presser than he "needs to make a better call" there. Yeah, that was a weird time to pull up your most riskiest call on the playsheet. Jones said afterwards that he hasn't practiced that much -- yeah, no kidding.
Another point to ponder: Why doesn't Fields make plays like that? He can run thru brick walls at 53mph but he can't quickly diagnose the defense and get the ball out quick throwing his receiver open. Yeah, that's an even bigger problem than the HC/DC making one dumb play call.

I looked at the boxscore after the game. Flacco threw for 374 yards! With the three interceptions, it just didn’t feel that way while watching the game.
