Jackson is a completely different QB than Fields as well. They shouldn't be even compared anyway.
Both have never thrown 4k+ yards in a season. One holds the NFL QB rushing record. The other one would of beat it if he wasn't held back. How are they different?
Jackson is fast twitch, elusive, and sudden with a lightning fast release when he needs it. I'm not sure about his ability to read defenses well but he makes decisions quickly and reacts fast. And because he can get the ball out so fast DBs don't often have time to react to the throw. Fields on the other hand is fast but not elusive or sudden. He can out run you but he needs a step to get going and won't juke you our of your socks the way Jackson can. Fields also has a slow throwing motion which allows DBs to break on the ball more effectively. He is also is slow to make decisions at times which is part of the reason he takes so many sacks and is late on his throws.
Other than they both run more than other QBs they have very little in common in playstyle. So I find it bizarre people even compare them.
Well...he's got over 1200 rushing yards...over 4k yards of offensive production...which is something to at least be happy with when you consider the receivers some of those passing yards came with.
In the modern NFL. If your QB can't throw for 4k+ yards. That is a problem. What happens when Fields legs get hurt and ain't the same. We've seen this time and time with running QB's. Great early on but one major injury and they turn into a backup.
Cam Newton Colin Kaepernick
Lamar Jackson has done nothing with the Ravens. That's Fields ceiling at best.
Get him NFL level receivers and find out what he can do. Fields is not a running QB...he ran because HE HAD TO. Again, go back and watch his college tape.
Lamar Jackson is an All Pro, an MVP and a Pro Bowler. He's taken them to the playoffs multiple times without any legitimate weapon at the receiver position. This franchise has never seen consistent success at the QB position like Jackson has offered the Ravens...so don't even try to disparage his level of play. If Jackson is Fields ceiling I'd say great...I'll take MVP level play any day of the week and 500 times on Sunday. For you to say that as a knock tells me you need to learn more about ball.

Don't agree with that what so ever. Fields is also much bigger than Jackson is.
With each game I have less and less certainty that Fields is the answer. But, I really want us to draft JR and DE with our two 1st rd picks. We have Fields and Bagent under contracts next year too. Lets see what they got with improved coaching and off roster.
I know. It sure would make me a lot less anxious if we would see Fields finish the season strong.
Do you read Fishbain’s Mailbag on The Athletic? He says the main reason the Lions have been better than the Bears the last two years is that Goff is much better than Fields and that coaching and talent at other positions than QB are secondary factors.
He also says Stroud is a super star QB and the Texans wouldn’t trade him for every damn thing Poles got in the draft last year.

Goff is a veteran who is on a team stacked with talent - both roster talent and great coaching talent. Fields came to a steaming pile of crap - both roster talent wise and also coaching talent wise. He's had to learn a new scheme coming here, then they fired coaches and he had to learn the (crazy) Nagy scheme/playcalling - and then the equally crazy Getsy scheme/playcalling. I have a lot of respect for what the Lions have done - at a time when the Bears have been horrific.
LOL, and why would you be surprised that ANY team would not trade away their franchise QB1 they just drafted a few months ago? I wouldn't either.

He did say Lions had advantage in non-QB talent and coaching, but I was a little surprised that he sees the Goff/Fields as the overwhelming factor. It raises the question whether if the Bears can equalize in coaching and talent next year, would Fields jump ahead of Goff in the QB rankings? If so, we’re set. If not, there’s still a problem. That’s a key question. And would Williams/Maye be best QB in the division by 2025?
I agree on the Stroud trade, although they’re getting Moore, Wright, Stevenson, a first round pick, and a second round pick.
The last two QB drafts we missed on Mahomes and then missed on Stroud. Do we miss again in 2024?

Those are good points. I think what I take away from it all is that it is really difficult to get the QB1 piece right. If it was easy then all 32 teams would have guys like Mahomes or Stroud. I've noticed over these many years that most college stud QBs (even Heisman winners and national champion winning QBs) usually fail at the next level. And sometimes guys who were passed over (not the top QB taken in a draft) end up better than the top guy.
LINK The NFL draft is coming. If your team drafts a 'franchise' quarterback in the first round, brace for failure "... But you probably also don't need to worry about which quarterbacks get taken in the first round. Because on average, quarterbacks taken early in the NFL draft end up mediocre or worse.
Warren Sharp at Fox Sports recently did the math.
"There have been 38 quarterbacks drafted in the first round since 2011, the year the NFL changed the collective bargaining agreement to set a wage scale for rookie deals, making it extremely affordable to draft a quarterback," he began. "These 38 first-round quarterbacks have made a total of 1,909 starts. Their record? 1034-1035-7. Almost exactly break-even."
"Only one of those 38 quarterbacks led their team to a Super Bowl victory: Patrick Mahomes," Sharp reported. "Of these 38 quarterbacks, 10 are still on their rookie deal, so set them aside. Of the other 28, only 11 (39%) were even given a second deal with the team that drafted them. Most were cut or saw their rookie deals expire."

Except Goff isn't isn't much better than Fields, and the main difference for him has absolutely been coaching and talent at other positions.

I agree that Goff isn't much better than Fields, and the main difference has been coaching and supporting talent. That is huge. But I would add that Goff also is a very very seasoned veteran in his 8th NFL season. He has played on some really good teams and has had some really good coaches - and has been a 3-time Pro Bowl QB. I don't believe he is a great QB by any means. But my only point is that he has had the luxury of many supporting factors that Fields has yet to experience. In fact Fields' experience here in Chicago has been a polar-opposite as far as coaching and player support in his first seasons in the NFL here. I've never liked direct comparisons between players and teams. It's always an "apples to oranges" thing to some extent. Goff isn't Fields and the Lions are not the Bears. So why compare, right? It just seems stupid to me.

I read the article. Nobody should pay a dime to that company that produces these ratings. They have Sam Darnold and Zach Wilson as the highest rated. What a joke!
