I don't see why you wouldn't, personally. No draftee is a sure thing, even if you say generational a lot. Trevor Lawrence was a sure thing and he's hasn't lived up to that.
Build the team around him, draft blue chip players, and worst case scenario he doesn't work out and you have a fantastic roster ready to insert any QB into with a rock solid surrounding cast.

That's how I'm leaning right now too. I do hope we get to see Fields finish the season strong. Then build the O roster up around him. I'd so love to see Marvin Harrison Jr in a Bears uni. Bring in a stud C. Improve the OL depth too.

Okay with this plan except you don’t get a center until second round. I want Latu or Newton with the second pick. For this to work, we just need Panthers no lower than #2 in draft order. If Flus is still here, he’ll be drooling over Newton as his 3-tech “engine of the defense.”

I wouldn't draft a C with a 1st round pick. I think the ideal would be with a 2nd round pick (most drafts have the best C going in the 2nd round... not always but often). But we don't have our 2nd round pick anymore. OTOH we do have (what should be) a very very high 3rd round pick. One of those top-3 centers in this draft should be there for that pick. Or, maybe Poles can make some deal to get us back a 2nd round pick. There are different ways to do this. I just don't want some deadbeat veteran brought in - and we continue to watch the failures on game day at C.

We probably do not get the top center in the draft, but even third round guy should be an upgrade. I already forgot that Poles traded the second round pick for Sweat.

If our top three picks went MHJ-Newton/Latu-Top Center I would be beyond hyped, that's how you need to build this thing.
I'd love to trade down to 2/3 and get MHJ and some more picks but I'd rather stick at 1 (hypothetically, if that's where we are) and get him rather than miss out. Depends on draft order. Not sure if Cards/GMen are going QB and wonder what Pats are gonna do.

With each game I have less and less certainty that Fields is the answer. But, I really want us to draft JR and DE with our two 1st rd picks. We have Fields and Bagent under contracts next year too. Lets see what they got with improved coaching and off roster.

Did you watch that Josh Lucas interview on Hoge & Jahns? It is very informative on Fields and his top 5 draft prospects. He gave two or three reasons why Bears will draft Williams #1. He wants to draft tackle Latham with the second pick unless the Bears have a narrow gap between him and Latu in playing ability. In that case, you take Latu because DE is a greater need than tackle. Harrison then almost surely goes to whatever team drafts #2.

I know. It sure would make me a lot less anxious if we would see Fields finish the season strong.
