I would credit Flus for some of the marked improvement in the Defense since he took over from Alan Williams. I agree with MOTM that if you move on from Fields then Flus goes as well. But if you stick with Fields another year then I think that means you stick with Flus too.
So what exactly has Kevin Warren done this year? I really don't know.
Most likely, harbored ever increasing regrets over taking this job. I bet it's been eye-opening for him to start to peel the onion of problems he's seeing face to face.
Yeash, this is ****** up! ... that's what he thinking right now.

He seems like a high-energy guy who thrives on problem solving. Some people (very few, but special people) are wired that way. Wise people take the time to fully understand the problems before thoughtfully moving forward to solve them. Warren seems to be that kind of problem solver. He doesn't just "react" and make existing problems worse. Keep in mind that Kevin Warren was just hired this year. Basically the 2023 season airplane was already in the air... not the best time to be overhauling the engines in mid-flight. When this season comes to an end (soon), we will see Warren begin to fix the franchise. I don't expect him to do surgery with an ax here. I expect he is the kind of guy who won't simply throw the meatballs a bone by firing everyone. That has never worked here anyway. Sure, firing GMs and HCs appeases the fans for a few years and the McCaskey's have sure done this to shut us up and continue to mismanage the team... laughing all the way to the bank with the $$$.
I think this Kevin Warren guy is a very different animal. I believe he loves this kind of challenge and will begin fixing the franchise for long-term success. I am going to trust this guy as our only hope for ever getting the Chicago Bears franchise fixed. If he can't do it. Then it will never happen. Consequently, if he fires or keeps people, I am going to trust in his judgment... at least for now. Let's see if he can clean up the mess of decades of rot here. The heck of it is, I think this is the kind of challenge that he loves. He will be a Chicago legend if he can be up to the task here.
I'm still in on Poles...I don't think he needs to go. I can get on board with keeping Flus as long as the OC is gone, but I'm mostly ambivalent to him.
Here is the thing, do you keep Flus around to then draft a QB? Then to fire Flus in year 1 of the new QB and force another HC to have to use this QB? If we're getting a new QB. We need a new HC to go with him. This cycle did not work with Trubisky and Fields. Let's not make the same mistake.
I've been thinking about this the past couple days. As I've said previously, I do believe there is a benefit to consistency and patients, so I can be talked into keeping Flus...but I'm totally out on Getsy. Now where my issue came into play as I continued to think about this scenario...keeping Flus and firing Getsy, is that Flus would then be hiring the new OC.
Further, would they be able to get a good option if coaches feel like Flus is on the hot seat and would be gone in 1 year anyway? Or, would Poles/Warren tell the new OC that they could potentially be the coach in waiting if Flus doesn't work out, and that would entice a coach. Or, would the ability to say work with Fields if they keep him, DJ Moore, and a potential draft pick like MHJr plus our running backs be appealing to a prospective candidate? All this definitely created a new wrinkle...and I'm not sure I like how that might play out.
I agree that if you're getting rid of Fields you should probably just get rid of Flus and reset the whole thing though. If you're keeping Fields, I could see some value in holding on to Flus...there ARE signs of progress being made, and he's done a good job with the defense. I don't know man...tough one...which is why I'm not an NFL GM.

I’ve pondered the same… What good and upcoming OC would come to us knowing Flus is on a potential one and done year without some kind of guarantees? Even with a bunch of shiny toys, I don’t see it.
