JJ is on record saying he isn't trying to break record money. Wouldn't be surprised the Bears gave him a super low ball offer like 15 million.
Here is the thing. What else are we going to spend that money on? We missed out on a few good FA's like Orlando that would of been a huge difference maker for us. You got to pay for talent at the end of the day.
I am hoping both guys get extended. At some point, if you don't want to continue having a crap team, you do have to invest in key positions. Edge and CB are two of those key positions. Don't do some crazy overpaying, but at the same time you have to realize there IS a cost to doing business here with these key positions. You don't do this with positions like RB. But edge and CB, you need to open up and pay good money for good players - and especially in JJ's case, a guy you drafted. If a team doesn't have at least a few of these success stories then hey, you're failing, right?
Well, if you let JJ walk away you could always bring back Kindle Vildor for cheap....who's up for that?
Yesterday at 9:35 AM, I got a call from a very well-known and accurate NFL "Insider." The first thing he said to me was, "Do you know what Jaylon Johnson is looking for?" I told him no, but I assumed it was a very high figure. He said the word around the League is that he is looking for a contract similar to what the Cowboys' Travon Diggs received this summer.
I would probably be ok with around that, depending on how its structured
Why shouldn't he? He's home grown talent that deserves his contract.
Thats not the question. Are u following all this? We tried to extend him, he didnt take it and now hes gonna get offended like some granma cos hes not gonna get extended first!? GTFO with that kindergarten shit. Are these guys grownups or what?
Thats like Bears organization gets offended cos he didnt take our possible lowball, cos 'we drafted JJ and he should be forever and ever be grateful to us!'
Motm, please
So JJ should just accept being underpaid?
Since when do we side with the owners who make billions of dollars?

If Diggs is 5/97 I'd offer 5/92M with a 25M signing bonus, 5M guaranteed 2024 salary & 10M & 12M guaranteed salaries in 25/26. 52M guaranteed. CAP HITS:

Are you reading what I wrote? And understanding sarcasm as a concept?
+1 I figure if you want to play with the big-boys then you have to make some big-boy investments. It's not a business for the timid. The cap is rising so if Poles nails down Sweat and JJ both, I'll bet the cap will make us look back in a few years and realize it wasn't all that much money - because player costs are always going up. I remember when we were all appalled at the Cousins QB contract he signed his big contract with the Vikings. He's not even in the top-10 APY now... it's chump change due to the fact salaries quickly escalated. It will be the same for edge and CBs, and the Sweat/JJ contracts will seem very reasonable down the road.

And they have two years of Fields at a low contract AND if he doesn't work you have5 years of another cheap QB contract. its the prefect time to "overpay" for FAs.
