My biggest concern with Sweat was he's coming from a Dline where he was "a guy" and now is on the Chicago Dline and is expected to be "the guy".
Well that "guy" had the most sacks on that D Line, and his former team didn't have ONE sack today. Thats right...ZERO...ZIP...NADA!! The Commanders had ZERO sacks today.
That's great they had zero sacks. Could careless if they do get sacks. I do care about Mr 25 million.
Khalil Mack first game with us was legendary. Dude had very little practice compared to the rest of the team and dominated with strip sacks and a pick 6.
Mr 25 million couldn't even get a .5 sack? I expect better going against the panthers.

The fact you keep mentioning his salary and comparing him to Mack is about the dumbest thing ever...which is saying something. Mack was traded for CONSIDERABLY MORE draft capital...multiple first round picks. Mack also received a RECORD BREAKING CONTRACT EXTENSION from the Bears after that trade. Was Sweats deal RECORD BREAKING? Was he traded for multiple first round picks?? He's not Mack. Nobody ever said he was.
Beyond that stupid comparison...the Bears aquired Mack on Sept. 1. Their first game was Sept. 9. Now I'm no math major...but I do believe that 8 days is more than 4 days....right?

Of course I'm going to mention his salary. He's getting paid top 5 for pass rushers. That's elite level money there.
We're paying elite money to a guy who has never hit 10+ sacks in a single season. That's insane. I could stomach 20 million since he would be at 11. But top 5 money for a guy who never or isn't elite isn't worth it. Like I said, if his performance continues to be this bad going into the Panthers game. Then we have a problem. Sweats won in this deal. Poles panic and overspent on both picks and cap money.
As someone who likes to read other football teams posts when things like this happen to get their perspective on things.
Most here making fun of Bears for overpaying top 40 2nd round pick for a good edge rusher that isn't elite. Sometimes it is nice to take the fanboy glasses off and get a reality check from time to time.

LMAO!!!!! Dude...the guys in the top 4 are making way more than him. Many of the others signed deals way before him, so of course there's going to be an increase. Oh, and every one of those guys aside from Bosa is older than him. Sweat is one of the best edge defenders in the league...hands down. And you keep comparing him to Mack but ignore Macks extension was RECORD SETTING!!!!!!!!
As for you reddit link...those bozo's are saying they could have paid him, but the forgot the Commanders only have $16 mill in cap space next year. I don't think I'll take their word for anything.

Nice deflection. Doesn't change the fact he's top 5 which is elite money. He's not elite and has never had 10+ sacks in a single seasons. These two things are facts. I understand a lot of people don't want to really say that Poles got fleeced in his deal. Sweat took advantage of a young naïve GM and got elite money from him after trading away a top 40 pick.
No where in that comment that you replied to talked about Mack. I'm not trying to talk about Mack since its different times but Mack was more game changing on his first day than Mr 25 million was.
Also Cap space is just a number. How many times do we see a team in CAP hell get out of it? But that's besides the original comment on Sweat.
LOL about the reddit and social media meatballs. Comical.
Anyway, Brad Biggs contacted some NFL pro scouting and pro coaching contacts... here's part of his article:
LINK "I placed calls to a couple of former Commanders employees to get a handle on Sweat and what they thought he’d provide for the Bears. Donnie Warren retired as a pro scout in June 2022, so he was there for the early stages of Sweat’s career. “He’s as good of a run player as he is rushing the passer,” Warren said. “Chicago got the best of the football players (Washington traded, alluding to the other defensive end Chase Young). Montez is an all-out guy. His get off, his length, he’s got long arms, he’s got long legs. He has been taught well to use his hands in the run game and keep people off him. I like him.” Former Bears offensive line coach Pete Hoener finished his coaching career under Ron Rivera in Washington, retiring following the 2021 season. Hoener was also there to watch Sweat develop and he knows edge defenders when he sees them. “Unreal athletic ability,” Hoener said. “He practiced hard. Played hard. Had a good motor. Seemed to be a tough guy. His biggest attribute is his athletic ability. He’s got all the tools now.”

I'm really hoping Sweat works out since we're paying him elite money. So hopefully he does turn into a consistent pass rusher. He's no Young. Young had a 24% percentage of beating the blocker.
No one is saying Sweat isn't a good player. He is a good player. Elite though, he's nowhere close to that. Young has a higher ceiling of getting to that level imo.
At the end of the day. He is a Bear and I'm going to root for a 10+ sack season for him but when he isn't playing up to his contract. I'm going to call him out on it.
Young apparently is "damaged goods" now after the reconstruction of his knee that required grafting part of his one healthy knee into his reconstructed knee - Washington wouldn't even release his medical records on the bad leg... that's how bad it must be now. And that's why Sweat commanded more investment to acquire. Can you imagine the meatball outcry in Chicago if the Bears signed another glassman player here?

I'm more of a fan of keeping picks since Flus future isn't for sure. Who's to say the new HC/DC will use Sweat the way we're using him now and wants a different scheme? Again Sweat isn't bad by any means. He is OVERPAID for what he brings to the table. Just hope he can become a 10+ sack player that this team really needs.

We get it, you throw nickels around like manhole covers and if the team spends a dime it's the end of the world. R-E-L-A-X! Who cares if he's overpaid? We're not GMs here. We have no control or influence over what the team spends or doesn't spend. Honestly, it makes no difference to us. What counts is his performance and how he meshes with the team, and the team's performance. Constantly beating a dead horse over and over again about a guys contract is pointless, and annoying.
