At no point EVER was Sweat hitting FA. DC FT's and re signs him, or the team that trades for him does the same. DE's of that caliber don't reach FA unless there are other issues, health, work ethic issues, personality issues and even some of those are not going to stop teams from trading/re signing them.
This guy is going to get 21-25 aav, and he'll be worth every penny. There is no one in FA that you get like him for less; and you aren't finding him in the 2024 draft in the first, let alone 2nd round. JJ will get FT'd and sign a longterm deal.
How do you know that? Giving away a second is pretty cheap for a franchise pass rusher.
B/C DC wasn't going to let him unless he got traded, and the team that traded for him wasn't/isn't going to let him. The player 100% does not have a choice. He'll be 27 next year and the Bears can tag him 2 times, putting him heading into his 30th year and well past the point of getting a huge blow out contract; not past the point of being productive, Mack and others have proven DE's can go well into their 30's, and this dude is a 100% unit. But he won't be getting a super huge contract.
He and his agent have a reason to want to get a deal done, and the Bears hold all the cards to make sure that deal is w/them. At this point you are being purposefully ignorant on how contracts work in the NFL. He's made around 11mil on his last contract, a FT is 20+ mil, if the Bears FT him, he's playing, he's not sitting out. The Bears can then tell him, now lets work out a longterm deal b/c we are fully committed to another FT regardless of the cost next year, but we don't want to do it.
AT NO POINT was Sweat, REGARDLESS OF TEAM, seeing FA. EVER. DE's like him do not see FA for a reason. They are traded or re signed, not cut.

Sweat is a good player don't get me wrong but he's nowhere close to prime Mack or Bosa for example. There is a reason why it cost Mack 2+ 1st round picks and only a 2nd round pick for Sweat. He's not a game changer like those guys. He's never had a 10+ sack season. Zero all pros. Of course the Bears hold the FT over him and I have a strange feeling they're going to use it on JJ or Sweat.
Its also not in Poles best interest to FT him. It shows he failed as a GM and gave up a cheap 4 year rookie who's basically a 1st rounder for an aging vet and couldn't even sign him long term. That's enough to get someone fired after 2 horrible seasons.
Point is, hopefully a long term deal is done for sweat so we don't have to panic about us losing a 2nd round pick for a 8 game rental and a FT. Basically setting us back another year in the rebuild if no long term deal is done.

Thats what im saying too. We traded for him so we could control his destiny, as FT him. Only problem we could use two of those (JJ) 😁

JJ should get re signed regardless, but the team has drafted DB's out the wazoo. I've heard chicago media wax theological that Pole saw this coming and drafted appropriately for it. I don't think it will come to that, he'll go to FA, and find out what he found out via the trade, he's not getting what he thinks he should, might be more then Chicago, but not what he's wanting.

And? what's the point? Macks contract is out of date, it was signed in 2018, and is now in his mid 30's. No one, and I MEAN NO ONE, is acting like Sweat is going to cost Bosa money. Hell if Mack was re signed today he wouldn't get Bosa money. You keep brining them up as if their contracts are comps to what Sweat would get. They aren't and he isn't getting Bosa Money, no one is. The closest comp is Crosby from last year, and he doesn't regularly get 10+ sacks either, in 5 years he's done it twice; other 3 years 6,7,8. Sound familiar? That contract was last year, so giving a 4-5 year contract of similar numbers to Sweat makes sense. They are close(especially w/Sweat on pace for 10+ this year) They are similar age, similar production and similar time.
That's your comp Crosby 23+ mil. somewhere between, what's that, 21 and 25. Which is what is being reported, ie not close to Bosa, and just drop the outdated Mack contract, you know full well and good that contract is old.

Yes and Sweat has never gotten one 10+ sack season and he's coming from a team where he was just "a guy" to a really great dline and now is expected to be "the guy". You remember even Mack struggle at times to be the guy when it came to a horrible line. We don't have Carter on this team to help Sweat get sacks. Maybe david was right and we should of gotten him when we had the chance. Having Carter and Sweat would really be a huge positive for the defense.
Will sweat have an impact on this team? Sure. Will it be at the level of 20+ million? Not at all. We basically need to replace everyone on that Dline which cost picks. Usually high end picks 1st and 2nd rounders. At the same time we can't afford to throw all our picks on the defense when we need a new QB, WR help and Oline help as well.
I'm just hoping Fields balls out for the rest of the season enough to earn a 2nd round pick.

I'm not sure what you are rambling on about, and I'm positive you don't either. What does any of that have to do w/the fact that he'll get re signed and it won't be Bosa like deal which is what you were bitching about previously. How do you figure it won''t be worth 20+Mil? You act like 20+ mil is elite level and it's not.

Breath, r-e-l-a-x.
I'm not worried that he's getting resign. That's a given. I'm worried Poles will have to overpay because he didn't plan this out. Sweat holds all the cards.
FT? Sure. 20+ million first time. FT Tag them again? Add another 20% to their last FT. Sweat wins in the end of the deal. Any decent GM would hold the cards in his favor. This GM is the opposite. Now if JJ is on board as well. It comes a nightmare as can Poles really justify losing another home grown talent?
I hate to give 40% of the cap or whatever someone pointed out to two good players when this team isn't close to competing yet. We got another 2 years easily.

W/a cap of 240,000,000 how are those two going to be 40% of the cap, that would be those 2 making 96mil next year. Who thinks those 2 are getting 96mil? If both were to get FT'd somehow they would not be 40% of the cap.
JJ and Sweat are actually very similar players, I'm not sure how you want one so badly and don't worry about over paying him, while fretting and pissing your pants about the other?
JJ is a really good CB that doesn't get turnovers, Sweat is a really good DE that doesn't get sacks; but way more sacks then JJ gets turnovers. Both should be on the team next year and likely will be. Neither is going to get overpaid or hurt the cap in any meaningful way. Neither is going to get a Mack like deal that F's the future of the team.
NEITHER hold all the cards b/c the NFL doesn't allow players to EVER hold all the cards.
