You mean we won't be winning our next 3 games? I mean after those 3 we have to beat the Panthers...right?
It would be great if we get the 1st overall draft pick. To actually be worse then the Panthers and they give us their 2nd overall would be picing on the shite cake. I guess it doesn't matter much in the end anyways.
The real problem is we needed the full season to determine whether Fields was the guy or not. Now we don't get that chance. What do we do with him next year?
Oh, wait, I already said I'm done with him. Good, let's see what Bagent has. Might as well tank again and get #1 and #2 picks.

LOL At least no one can take those picks away from us. And hey!!!! A new QB and incoming Staff means we could be bottom dwellers again next year so here's to #1 pick in the 2025 draft..
Remember that anyone you trade now needs to be replaced as a starter/ If you trade Jackson you are drafting a S early, maybe the first if they trade down. If you trade Johnson you are drafting a CB early (2nd round most likely). I know we all want to draft OFF from now until 2028, but if you trade these guys you have to replace them either in the draft or with subpar talent in FA that you overpay for.
We need to be careful what we wish for.
Eddie Jackson is north of 30yo now and only has a couple INTs in the last 3 years. He's also has only one more year left on his contract IIRC.
He's a perfect trade candidate for a tank scenario and safeties aren't that expensive to acquire (whether draft or FA).
You aren't gonna get much for him but you take it cuz he's not gonna be in the team's plans 2-3 yrs down the road anyway.

I think that is an excellent point. We have enough holes on this roster without creating more holes.
You realize he's over 30 now and entering the final year of his contract, right? There's gonna be a "hole" there regardless.
I'm speculating here based on mechanism but my guess is that JF1 has a thumb UCL sprain (ulnar collateral ligament). I had one once from a skiing accident (also no fracture). I can tell you that it HURTS LIKE A @##@$@!!! whenever you try to squeeze anything with that hand. Mine took at least a month to heal and I was in a hand splint for a few weeks.
If Fields' injury is similar, expect him to miss multiple games.

My response is more to the knee-jerk "trade everyone and start over" which I haven't seen here yet. But, regardless, I hope they are careful not to create holes while trying to build up. They did the tear down already. I don't have comments about individual players (outside of Johnson, who I hope they don't trade but resign). Regardless, I'd keep Jackson and let him walk after next season. IMO paying him next season lets you draft more OFF following this season. BUT....in the long term he's out after 2024-2025 regardless. Maybe you get something from a team that loses depth in the next few weeks. Eagles were playing a rookie CB at S yesterday. Apparently Philly went into the season with 3 safeties and they are all hurt. Maybe we can trade Eddie for Jalen!!
He's under contract for 2024 with a "void year" in 2025. In effect, he has one year left with the Bears after this season. Moving on from him before 2024 season would recoup $12.5M in cap with a $5.5M dead cap hit so a net savings of $7M.
If we are reloading at QB (which certainly looks like the way this is heading), it makes sense to trade away or even release assets you have that won't be part of that process. I like Eddie Jackson but reality check time here -- he's north of 30, past his prime, and has bitten by the injury bug a lot lately. He went out again yesterday with another foot injury. Do you really think he's worth keeping around for the 2-3 years its gonna take to retool the QB position?
These are concepts David can't seem to wrap his head around. He's still mad Poles let Akiem Hicks and Danny Trevathan go last year even though it was the exact same situation.
PS: Cody Whitehair is the same situation (CONTRACT) but even a year older.
