It is a matter of degrees. I think Gary had only 12 snaps against Wright and was beating him easily and repeatedly with speed. He doesn’t do that well against everyone. It’s still early, but there’s some evidence his problem will be speed rushers, whereas Brax can handle speed but has had trouble with bull rush.
Again, tell me the VET and then the rookie OT's that are not beaten down by Gary or Jones? I'm waiting for the players names. Not some imaginary PFF style bs thought of what you saw.
Names please.
Read what I wrote. Nobody has an easy day against Gary. Never said otherwise. I said it is a matter of degrees. He was beating Wright handily and consistently. Statistically, Chris Jones had a sack and 3 QB pressures. That’s a little better than he averages against the league, but excusable. This is only game 4, so I want it taken as a preliminary observation, not a conclusion. Let’s see if he improves against Gary in their rematch.

+1 That's my take on it too. Rookies are, well, rookies... this is what you go through. I figure if you don't like it then don't draft anyone and play 'em. Which obviously would be pretty nutty. You draft these guys, develop them, and suffer with them as they learn their craft at the NFL level - which is especially difficult for offensive linemen. You invest in their development and then (hopefully) enjoy many many seasons of ROI, return on the investment. No pain. No gain.
And I feel the same way about our GM. If President/CEO Warren fires Poles, hey, I'm fine with that. But if he feels like Poles is going to be a good young GM for the Bears, then I am also fine with that. Poles is a rookie GM. He is just a few games into his 2nd season here. Just like there is a learning curve for young players, so too there is a learning curve for young GMs. We have suffered through the worst part of the learning curve with Poles (hopefully) just as we suffered through some bad games with Brax and Wright. If we cut those two players, believe me, a team would scarf them up and benefit from OUR investment in them. I think that could (key word there is "could") be a similar thing with our young GM. If Warren thinks he's got what it takes to learn from his early mistakes (like Brax and Wright) then you keep the guy and reap the ROI on our investment in him - we suffered through the rough part of the learning curve... let's now enjoy several years of return on that investment - again - if, and only if, Kevin Warren believes he can be good for us.
Of course the meatball strategy is to "fire everyone" and then wonder why the cycle of failure continues. At some point we need some continuity here. No new (young) GM is going to be mistake free. Hell, even the BEST general managers make their share of mistakes, especially in the early years. That is just reality.

Respond to what I said. No you said he struggled against 2 of the best pass rushers in the league, as if he was expected to do anyt other then struggle. That's what you said.
congrats you are now on the same page as everyone else. Wright is a rookie that struggled against 2 of the best, but has otherwise looked really good. And like everyone else, is not surprised that a rookie struggled against 2 of the best. Ta-Da everyones in agreement.

I would not expect Wright (or anyone else) to perform flawlessly against Gary and Jones, so I don’t have any such names for your strawman argument. On the other hand, if Gary could beat everyone as handily and repeatedly as he did in that first Packers game, he will be in the Hall of Fame. I want to see how Wright performs against other good speed rushers as the season progresses. If he is limited in foot speed, we will find out.

Strawman my ass. You pointed to 2 of the best in the game as examples of why he's struggled all year. I said name the players that don't struggle against them, and you avoided to answer b/c there IS NO ANSWER. You said you have standards and look for examples, as if I asked for your point system and not players that don't struggle against your two examples.
Wright is playing fine. He's not perfect, he's going to make mistakes, and he's going to struggle on an island against the best pass rushers in the game, just like EVERY rookie OT will. Radio and chicago journalists are talking he's got all pro potential at RT after how he's started the season. The kid is going to be fine if he continues to grow.

I never said there are tackles who don’t struggle (somewhat) against Gary and Jones. That’s the strawman. I said it’s a matter of degrees.
I hope the Chicago journalists are right. We’ll see how he develops.

By suggesting that there was an issue/concern b/c Wright did that means others don't. That's not a strawman. No you didn't say it's a matter of degrees, you only said that after I asked for examples. You also didn't give examples you avoided it like the plague b/c there aren't any.
You got called on our BS and now are upset and claiming strawman when it isn't. If you say someone struggled and therefore its a reason for concern, that infers others don't. So asking for examples is not a strawman. It's asking for you to clarify. You stating well it's a matter of degree, is really just moving the goal post of your own point b/c you know you have no legs to actually stand on. Just admit those 2 are not good examples of a rookie struggling and we can move on. Or you can continue to get callled out; don't confront me, I'm not working, I got all day w/nothing better to do.

Yes, I did say it was a matter of degrees — in my first reply to clarify my position. I never intended to imply anything else. He was getting beaten right off the snap pretty consistently, especially by Gary. That could be a “rookie” thing or a “slow feet” thing. He will get another pretty good test against the Commanders tonight. Montez Sweat is pretty damn good. Let’s compare notes.

Well considering he wasn't getting beat right off the bat for anyone else on anu regular basis why would've t be a feet thing?

Your theory and your degrees are both trash.
It is not a theory. It is a preliminary observation needing more data before I reach any conclusion. We have a very small sample size here. The other two teams are not very good. So I'd be worried if Wright had problems vs. Tampa or Denver. As I said, he gets his third good test tonight with Montez Sweat. He is quick off the snap. Let's both watch and compare notes after the game. Agree?
