Agree with Claypool and afraid it may apply to Fields as well.

Losing the Claypool trade sucks but is hardly catastrophic.  Fields busting is way, way worse.

But what do we really expect at this point? Something to actually work? I’d like to see all 11 players on the offense look like they actually heard the play call in the huddle and knew what the words were telling them to do. I’d like for some young player to look like a cornerstone piece that Chicago can build around for the future—I don’t care if it’s Fields, Wright, Brisker, Roschon Johnson, Tyson Bagent, or Trenton Gill. I’d like for the offense to use Fields the way he has always, obviously, been best used: the way he was used at Ohio State, when he looked like a knockout quarterback prospect. I’d like for Fields to look at an open receiver and then throw him the football. And I don’t think that this is even really asking for much.

I don’t think any of this will happen. Why should I have any faith? All of this is basic stuff. It should have been cleared up and handled by mid-August. The fact that it is persisting into September tells me that all of the Bears’ pillars—their coaching staff, their front office, and their quarterback—are on entirely different pages. Nobody—not Eberflus, Getsy, Fields, or Poles—seems to be able to get what they want out of anyone else in the building. There’s no harmony, no synergy. No clear organizational thrust. This is a discordant operation. There’s nothing about it that doesn’t stink, and that kind of rot won’t go away in a week

He's been playing QB since HS, he knows how to throw to open wrs he sees. Something else is going on, and we saw something similar with Tru, imo, and it's trust. He doesn't trust what is happening in front of him. Why doesn't matter, he's overthinking, or seeing ghosts, or the receivers aren't where they should be, or he just doesn't trust himself to get it to them by the time he sees it. We know he want TD to check down, and likely hes struggling to break that habit.

Regardless it's not working, and likely won't. Can only hope they tell him, throw an incomplete, throw a int, throw a pick 6, just count to 3 and throw it, we can figure something to out from there.

I have always been of the opinion that a great coach can make do with what they have.  I don't mean that a great coach could win with a crappy roster.  Just that at any given point in time, they can get the most out of what they have.  I don't see anything like that out of our coaching staff.

From what I am seeing out of Getsy, he is repeating last season.  Trying to reinvent Fields as a pocket passer.    I am not trying to defend Fields here. Or say that he is out franchise QB.  Just saying that Fields is not a conventional NFL QB.  He has his strengths and weaknesses just as any other player does.  We need an offense that will play to his strengths and try to minimize his weaknesses.   Then in the offseason you evaluate everything and everyone and make hard decisions.

But what we have seen so far is not anything remotely creative or imaginative.  And the long hard decisions that get made this offseason should start with the coaching staff.  Do we draft a QB in 2024?  Sure if that is what Poles sees as a need.  But maybe we need a decent coaching staff before we ruin another QB, WR etc.  Because IMO that is all we are really good at.
