Bears OL strategy? This is interesting to read.

Im still trying to get what u mean, and I really mean it!
But, I just cant bring myself to understand what u mean by ignoring it, when their biggest sign/trade was WR1 and 1st draft pick biggest OL need.

I think the Bears feel like they are rebuilding the roster in a balanced way, and are investing resources in both the offense and defense.  I know there is frustration with how the team has struggled (and failed) on the offense side of the ball over the years.  And it is frustrating.  I think I get what riczaj01 is getting at.  Part of my own frustration has been with the situation Fields came into here when we drafted him... but then I remind myself that the past stuff with Fields coming to a team led by Nagy and with minimal support around him - that's past.  Can't change what has already happened.  But I have to admit that it made me angry to watch how the Bears under Pace/Nagy never gave Fields a chance to succeed.  Fields had pitiful supporting talent and Nagy pretty much did everything to ruin the kid.  It was all so "wrong" what they did to Justin Fields that first season in the "Nagy Offense" here.  Then last year wasn't a walk in the park either with the roster teardown season.  Mooney as your #1 WR was almost criminal.  It was so embarrassing that in November they threw Fields a bone by getting Claypool... that was "too little and too late" to really help.  The OL blew chunks last season too.  So year-2 for Fields was another season where he was set up for failure.  Others may not agree with that, but I do have some of the same frustrations about the offense - the way it has played out for Justin Fields.

In light of all that, one way the Bears could have approached this season would have been to focus most of the top draft and cap resources on offense and just let the defense rot for a year.  I'm talking about getting ALL the bells and whistles for JF in one off-season.  You would have seen those 3 picks following the Wright pick, go offense instead of the defense.  But the Bears are obviously approaching the rebuild this 1st year, in a more balanced approach.  The defense got a lot of help this year - both in the draft and also in FA.  And I'm fine with that.  But I do understand people wanting to see more help on O than what actually happened.  I think we will see that additional help come to the offense in 2024 though.  

One thing I do like with our messageboard (a lot) is how it is 100% okay for all of us to view the Bears' moves and judge them as we see fit.  LOL, we have the "Draft JSN" posts... the "Fix the OL posts" from OL zealots like me.  In the end we will know a lot more about the offense when the regular season games are played.  I'm thinking we will be pleasantly surprised by how well Fields and the offense do this year.  Won't be perfect.  Rome wasn't built in a day.  And 2024 should bring the 2nd wave of rebuild talent to the offense.  I'm fine with that... and probably the Poles approach is the best way.  He inherited a mess that is going to take a few years to clean up.

While both the O and the D were a train wreck last season, the O was able to keep us in some games and with a little help from the D and we could of won some (glad we didn’t! LOL). To me, what we needed was oline and WR1 to make us at least competitive and give us the ability to evaluate Fields and we accomplished that. The D needed more help as too many times they simply were unable to get the opposing offense off the field. I’m not convinced we’re there yet on the D, but a lot closer than we were.

I don't think people are laughing about the Lions.  They've sure beaten us plenty in recent years, and swept us last season - blew us out with 41 points in our last matchup.  Certainly, I am not laughing about the matchups coming this year either.  But I'm not laughing about Green Bay or the Vikings either.  The parity in the league means there are no easy wins on gamedays... better bring your "A Game" or any team can beat you... the upsets last year were crazy for my Pick Em league.

I liked JSN a lot.  But it would have been an over-draft at #9 or 10.  There is a reason he was drafted at #20. 

His value just isn't at the same tier as the #1 or #2 OT in the draft.  Bears had Wright graded out as the best offensive lineman in the entire 2023 draft.  We needed THAT guy more than a WR in a weak draft class for WRs.  I "get it" that an offensive lineman isn't as sexy as drafting a WR.  I get that.  But we needed to take care of the linemen in this draft... and Poles spent 3 of their first 4 picks on the linemen.  I like that.  Build that foundation and be happy with a PROVEN 1st round WR in DJ Moore.  For the Bears, veteran DJ Moore > rookie JSN.  JSN hasn't proven anything yet, other than he's missed a lot of football due to injuries.  Not saying he's made of glass.  But he is far from proven at the NFL level.  DJ Moore on the other hand is in his prime years and is proven.  That was the guy we needed this year.  It's looking like a better WR class in 2024... I'll bet we add a guy then.
