So are you saying you'd rather have a 2025 1st instead of a 2025 2nd + Moore? If that's your position (it has to be 3 FRPs!), then I can't help you. I think you are way overvaluing just one extra round up that doesn't even happen until 2 years from now.
If "Trey deal" was 3 1sts and a 3rd....that's far preferable to you than 2 1sts + 2 2nds + a WR1? If so, we couldn't be farther apart. I don't get that logic at all, particularly since we have to evaluate JF1 this year and KNOW if he's the guy going forward (5th year option decision comes next offseason). IMO, having that bird-in-hand (Moore) is way, way more valuable than one extra round up two years away. Not even close. And BTW, Moore is an excellent route runner who did a lot of damage out of the slot which you said was a key factor.
I saw zero trade scenarios with Indy that would ever include 3 FRPs to move up just 3 spots. Even paying a premium to the chart, that's a lot for a much smaller move.
And finally, I know we talked about this here weeks ago. I know we mentioned forgoing the "3rd FRP" in 2025 in favor of a young starting quality player and you were in favor then. So what changed?
We got a proven 1000+ yd caliber 26yo WR on a cost controlled contract for the next 3 years who has started virtually every game for his team over 5 seasons. That's worth a helluva lot, especially for a team desperately in need of weapons for their young QB. The "lost dogs" you hated will be gone and the WR room is already way, way better than it was last September.
I'm sorry you're so disappointed.
Moore was not the only way to get WR for Fields. My plan was to take Anderson/Carter at #4 and use the Colts #35 pick this year for a WR and also get a veteran WR1 like Hopkins, etc.
I am not saying I am disappointed with what Poles got, only that I would have preferred the Colts deal. It just wasn’t on the table. They wouldn’t accept Poles position. It would have been way overpaying on the sacred chart. Plus, for all we know, they may be perfectly happy to get Levis or Richardson at #4. They might even luck out and get Young or Stroud. We don’t know what the Texans and Panthers QB board looks like.
FYI, I just watch Lorin Cox’s YouTube regarding the trade. He wants a DE at #9 and said that, if Carter falls to #9, it would be the “absolute ideal situation” for the Bears. Thinking of you, I had to laugh, but don’t worry. He is going to be gone before #9. But what I DO worry about is the Lions getting him. If the Cards take Anderson, as expected, I will be holding my breath when the Seahawks draft.
I really don't care about a FRP two years from now and yeah a 2nd instead is no big deal to me. I'd much rather have the PLAYER HERE RIGHT NOW so we can give Fields a fighting chance in 2023 and evaluate him fully before a big contract or even enacting the 5th year option. I don't think he's gonna regress (pull a Trubisky '19) this year but it's always a possibility. I just wanna KNOW and there's no way to know, giving him a fair eval, without getting him a better receiving corps and a much improved OL. Part 1 of that has already happened and I assume they will add another WR for development in the draft. Fixing the OL still needs to be done and that will require a lot.
You wanted to use the #35 on a WR AND trade for Hopkins. What then were you planning to use as trade bait to get him? The Cards said they wanted a 2nd + another pick so what then? Even if that is an over-ask, doesn't add up...
And you keep conflating Carter with a DE or Edge. He isn't. He's an interior DL who's only had 6 sacks in 3 years of college football.
