Rashee Rice is a safer pick. He is playing in the Senior Bowl that Eberfuls is coaching. So Flus will see him up close. If he is available when the Bears draft in second round, that is the guy I'd take. He is tall, fast, and good route runner.
However. if Rice is gone, my second choice is Boutte. I have seen him in about three games this years, including Georgia. He showed up against Georgia, and Johnston did not. What this article says about him is pretty much in line with what I saw.

If this guy falls into the 2nd because of a lingering injury (i.e., short-term problem) than yeah I'm all for pulling the trigger. We are in a rebuild and patience is warranted here.

It will depend on how well he does at the combine. If he does TOO well, it might boost him into the first round and out of reach.

I think this thread got double-posted somehow, so I deleted one.
Like most rookie WRs, both will be projects at the NFL level and probably not be a lot of help this first year (and maybe never). But for '24 and '25 they have the potential to be a nice asset for Fields. They are very different receivers. Here are scouting reports for Boutte (LINK) and Rice (LINK). I'd love to see Poles draft one of these guys and hope he does. But it just highlights the need to bring in a veteran WR who is a legit talent - to go along with a drafted kid. Easier said than done though.

Yeah, our goal this year should be to draft a 2023 receiver who can become a #1 in 2024-2025. Most WRs take a year or two to break out. Guys like Chase and Jefferson who light the league on fire as rookies are the exception.

Here is a guy who agrees with me 100% on the 2023 WR class, especially on the guys who are likely to slip into the second round and be available for the Bears to draft. We especially agree on Johnston and Boutte. For good reasons, Johnston is starting to slide on the draft boards. I am telling you guys right now that, if Johnston and Boutte are both on the board, and Poles takes Johnston, I am going to throw something at my TV. More than ever, I believe that Boutte is the best WR1 candidate in the second round, and maybe in the entire draft.
Josh Downs may be the next Tyler Lockett, but Poles won’t take him because he is small. I will be watching Rashee Rice today in the senior bowl, but the early reports on him was that he did not look very impressive.

This really hangs you up eh? I mean it's not really Poles doing the coaching though. I imagine that if Flus can use him then he may draft him.
You really should stop assuming that you know what Poles is after because we still are not sure of the rankings.

I’m going by what he says and what he does. If he drafts a 175-lb. WR, I will change my opinion. Getsy said Dell was best WR in 1-on-1. Cox said nobody could cover him. He would be a great slot receiver for the Bears until he goes on IR.
