I don't want Barkley. I feel he is not worth the money needed for him. Besides we are not there yet so I would rather spend that money on shoring up the trenches.
I'm kinda leery too.
Lotta people say "you don't pay big money to RBs cuz they have a short lifespan and frequent injuries".
Barkley would cost well north of $10m/yr and has had the injury bug. Monty would cost well under $10m and has been remarkable durable for a RB. Guy heals fast and bounces back quickly. Yes, I'm well aware that Barkley is a full tier better as a RB than Monty is but we use a tandem with Herbert.
Is it worth paying for a bell cow, 3-down RB when you also have Herbert on a cheap rookie contract?
He will definitely go over $10M. He’s worth it. I’m fine going up to $15M for him or Jacobs. He is fully recovered from his ACL. Had 295 carries and 57 receptions last year.

I don't think its ever worth paying a RB after his rookie contract. I'd be OK with drafting a RB on day 3 every single year, as well as signing an UDFA or two. Sometimes you'll get a Langford, sometimes you'll get a Herbert. I'd rather invest the money for Barkley (as yes a tier better than what they currently have) on the OL or DL, even a tier 2 WR or TE would IMO be better.

Huh? So if you had Walter Payton or Adrian Petersen you’d let them walk after their rookie contract? In his 10th year with the Vikings, he had 1,485 yards.

+1
Yeah, we are needing a lot of players this year - and both the DL and OL are trash. We need a WR1 too. In light of that fact, it just doesn't make financial sense to spend big on a RB. Not this year.
I'm not surprised by that at all. I also think the Bears lead the league in running on second down after an incomplete pass on first down leading to 3rd and longs.

Proving we’re an offensive ####show.
I read that Monty wants $12M. How would you feel about going with Herbert plus a rookie? I want Barkley or Jacobs, but if Monty tries to play hardball with Poles, I can see Poles going to the draft for the other RB.

I'll start with the fact that I love Monty. He's a good locker room guy, good receiver, good blitz blocker, and moves the pile in short yardage.
But he isn't worth $12m and he isn't gonna get that in the FA market. If that's his "red line", then bye-bye and good luck. I would want Poles to draft another RB in rounds 3-5 then.
I have zero interest in Jacobs and not much more in Barkley to be honest.

I read that Poles MUST spend over $150M in 2023 to end up above the 89% level for the 4 years ending 2024. I want to buy Pro Bowl WR and RB for about $30M total. He can do that and STILL have more cap space than nearly every team in the league. You should change your mind on this if too many prize linemen in free agency re-sign or get tagged.
